Here’s my progress as of Monday evening – body done up to the armpits and first sleeve about 1/2 done. I’ll warn you that this is not a particularly photogenic project – look! Black blobs on the carpet… but wait? Where is the black blob? Hmmm…
The sleeve and I have have gone a few rounds of ripping. (Carole had warned me of hubris and offending the knitting gods in the comments on Sunday and she was so right.) I knew I didn’t want the bellshaped sleeves in the pattern, but I didn’t think through what I did want until I had cast on, sealed up the hem, and knit merrily away for a while. Finally, denial just didn’t cut it anymore. Rip rip rip, refigure the numbers, and off we went again.
Tonight I go home and take a hard look at the gauge on that sleeve compared to the body gauge… I’m thinking that, because knitting the sleeve is sort of like knitting a sock and I knit my socks tightly, my gauge on the sleeve is too tight. It might be mandatory that I drink wine while knitting the sleeves – what do you think?
Oh, I tracked down that missing blob:
Sorry that the knitting goddess dope slapped you. Chaos looks a little pissed off, really.
Don’t succumb to the pressure, dude……you can do it…
And, what’s with Chaos? What a swarmy look………….(grin)
I started the same sweater a while back and made it to the same place you are now. I got bored and now it is currently sitting at the bottom of my project bin. I love the shape of the sweater but hated my yarn choice (I was trying to use up stash yarn I bought years ago).
you can do it you can do it you can do it that picture of Chaos is PRICE-LESS!
Yes, definitely. Some wine might get you more relaxed.
So, Chaos is on strike, eh?
GO TEAM!
*shaking my pom poms*
Wait…wine drinking during sleeve making might not be mandatory? *shudder*
I’m with Imbrium here – sleeves should not be undertaken without the appropriate precautions.
If Chaos ever finds out about all the goofy pictures of him you’ve posted on the web, you are in such deep trouble!
Such a look! Maybe you should stick to one black blob picture per post.. because Chaos looks royally pissed. Maybe he’s jealous that you took pictures of the OTHER black blob first..
I agree with Mouse: Chaos is jealous of the other black blob in your life and has been ripping and reknitting in the night.
What a look Chaos has! Nice job with the sweater so far!
Yeesh, I’m totally intimidated… I’m still not even halfway up the foot on my socks. You make me look like I’m standing still!
I have absolutely no doubt whatsoever that you are going to make it, kiddo! The Knitting Goddess doesn’t want your head to swell so much that it explodes, but she is obviously still your Friend…
(The Cat sends greetings to Chaos, and wonders if *he* might have a little extra tuna, since it’s suddenly gotten a bit scarce here)

The sweater is looking great! Knit On fellow teammate! 🙂
holy crap you’re fast! ok so a little set back but youre still in the lead! I think some syrah or pinot is in order
You can doooooo it! Go Go CHRIS!
Chaos says: ‘How dare you flashy-thing me?!? Haven’t you found my SRM yet?’ just kidding, but he has an indignant look tonight :0}
Great progress! The wine thing might truly help with the sleeve though, relaxing your tension (knitting tension too!) ;o)
what kind of sleeve shaping are you gonna have instead of the bell shaped? awesome progress. maybe i should’ve chosen a sweater. huh.
My solution was to use different needles (wood vs metal) for the same sleeve problem/issue.
And wine.
I think wine sounds like a great solution to gauge issues. I will have to try that one myself!
I love the black hourglass.
Commenting has not been my forte lately…
I’m thinking about someday making that sweater…or some sweater…in the Cash Iroha she made it in originally. But really, sweaters intimidate me. I think I get bored too easily.
It looks like it’s moving right along despite setbacks. YAY!
Go Team!
I STILL love that picture ;o)
