In which I lunch, accompanied by a furry guitar

Remember the snow I mentioned Friday? Here’s photographic proof of it. May was enthralled, but she didn’t bird chitter at it the way she did last fall.

Reading Update
Unplugged by Lois Greiman. I’m reading these in reverse order, which isn’t brightest thing to do. Looks like I enjoyed Unscrewed (set after Unplugged) ok, but thought it covered so much of the previous books that I wouldn’t really need to read them. That explains why I had such a sense of deja vu as I read this!
Size 14 Is Not Fat Either: A Heather Wells Mystery by Meg Cabot. Former teen idol Heather Wells just keeps stumbling into murders as she tries to create a new post-teen idol life for herself.
Sex, Lies and Vampires and Even Vampires Get the Blues by Katie MacAlister. These are a bit silly, but since I am a sucker for cheesy titles, I keep reading them. 🙂

Life Update
Alas, I’ve healed so well that I return to work full-time on Wednesday. Waaaaah! If any of you know a single, cute, wealthy guy who has a great sense of humor and likes cats, send him my way, hmm? Thanks in advance! 😉

On Friday, after the snow had stopped and melted, I met Valerie (visiting from Massachusetts), her friend blog-free Kelly (visiting from Iowa),

the mysterious Guinifer (local, but I hadn’t met her before),

and Deb (yay, Deb!)

at 318 for lunch and knitting.

I have to admit that I was a bit nervous about knitting with Valerie, who you might know from Yarn4Socks, and Guinifer, who is a master yarn enabler (particularly sock yarn, but her reach is vast). However, I did manage to show up with a yarn that neither had heard of before – lovely sock yarn from Red Rocks Fiber Works (alas, nothing to their website yet), which was a convalescence gift from Michaele. I’m using the stitch pattern from the Los Monos Locos pattern, which I’ve knit before.

Besides the great company, conversation, and coffee, I really like 318’s decor. (Don’t look, Marina!)

  1. That is gag-worthy! How are you supposed to make music on that thing? (I would never have guessed what that was if I had not moused over that pic!)

Poor May! Tell you mom you want to come for a visit. Pennsyl will teach you how to be an inside/outside kitty.

Hey, are you near the Yarnery?

  2. Hee hee, sorry. If such a man exists, um, well I think I’ll probably go for it! 😀

Anyway – back to reality and the snow. I always love the first snow falls… We’ve yet to have one here. But Atticus LOVES watching it fall. When he was a kitten, he actually fell asleep sitting on his perch by the window. Sitting.

  3. Gee, May, at least you have heat. Remember the poor kitties who have to live out in the snow this time of year.

Congrats and sorry on returning to work Wednesday, Chris.

  4. Awww.. Miss May has a great idea on a way to spend the day! I keep trying to talk the husbeast into moving somewhere where it snows (again) but he’s having no part of it.

  5. Love that last pick of May – is Chaos hiding somewhere?

Lunch was really fun – I couldn’t believe it was almost 3 when I got back to the homestead!

  6. SNOW??!! Sheesh, it’s supposed to be 82 degrees here in Dallas today . . . warmer than “normal”, sure, but I would much rather it be cold enough to snow!

  7. Those are such priceless photos of her watching it snow. Miss Lulu loves to watch it snow, too.
Good luck on your quest for single and wealthy. If they’re not already taken, would you really want him???

  8. Snow, what’s snow? I don’t think we’ll have any this year the way it’s going.

I’m with May, though I want the Pepperidge Farm variety — original cheddar flavor please.

  9. I love that yarn! I remember back in the boom time my husband’s cousin came here to visit a friend who told her “there are so many rich guys here”! I don’t know any but I’m sure there are a few single guys here – maybe you could telecommute? We definitely have less snow 🙂

  10. Sorry about the work, it is so hard to go back after being off for a while. We are stillin the 70’s here, I’m jealous of your snow, I want it to get cold,so I can light a fire and knit

  11. Single, cute, wealthy men who like cats? Put me on that list but add one more thing – I want mine to travel on business occasionally. I’m too used to being alone and think I’d still ned “me” time. I’ll look for one for you if you look for one for me! Oh – no wool allergies……

  12. Bird chitter. I always wondered what to call that and now I know. Isn’t it hysterical when they do that? We call the kneading “happy paws.” I don’t know what other people call it. And when they rub their faces against things, my daughter calls it “cheeking,” as in Fifi is cheeking all the bags from the grocery store — mine, mine, mine, mine.

  13. Wow…snow! We are getting the wind right now…40-70 mph. So no leaves left and sigh, yes, we still have power! Stalker kitty was pressed flat against the french doors crying to come in this morning, a bit freaked out with the storm. Enjoy, perfect knitting weather!

  14. Oooh snow – we used to have some of that! I can’t believe it snows somewhere which was so hot in September! It is pretty cold here at the moment too but not enough for snow. I keep my eye out for a wealthy cat lover for you – my new neighbour is kind of nice and a bachelor…

  15. Um, yeah, my plan to be independently wealthy and never having to work again hasn’t worked so well either. 🙂

That photo of May cracks me up. At least it’s only raining here, even if the wind has been blowing about a million miles an hour. I’m happy with any precipitation that I’m not obligated to shovel.

  16. Oh, and May? Life doesn’t suck, you’re not out IN that snow, and your mom puts some variation of magic flying goldfish in your food dish every day.
Love, from Willie and Lucy, who want to see the magic flying goldfish…

  17. OMG look at that furry guitar! I read a great book this weekend, one of the kiddo’s. Fell by David Clement-Davies. Now I have to go find the first book.

  18. Aaaw, poor May. Dumb birds and no Magical Flying Goldfish. But May, the MFG’s are smarter than the dumb birds that hit the ground, so they won’t fall from the sky.

  19. Oh. Well. If you find him first, okay. But I asked first…wealthy, good-looking, funny, intellectually my equal (or better), and … LOVES cats. Oh. He can’t mind housework. Cause I rarely do any!
    lolol
I suspect I’ll remain single…what do you think?
    (((hugs)))

  20. I love watching May watch the snow more than watching the snow itself. The yarn is very pretty and it sounds like you had a delightful time out with fellow knitters.

  21. Oh, I remember snow now. 🙂 It was almost 70 here today. The 318 looks like a fun place for lunch. That’s too bad about going back to work full time. What will Chaos and May do with themselves? 😉

  22. Hi there! Your May and Chaos are such darlings. I have one solid black baby at the moment named Piggy Sue because her snoze looks like a piggy nose! Otherwise she is cute and entirely lovable. We also have a magpie girl named Cookie Berra, a cream male named Prof. Peach, and a tortoiseshell named Princess George. Talking of books, have you read Agnes and the Hitman yet? It is by Jennifer Cruisie and her co-writer(can’t remember his name) and is really funny. Even my husband read it. And laughed! At the moment I’m reading a book called The Blitz which is about the night of Dec.29, 1940 and the fire storm in London from the bombing. It is fascinating! I’m also on The Unfortunate Miss Fortunes which looks as though it will be funny. My knitting is going well enough. I’m working on two more Chevron Scarves which are cute. And a couple of pairs of socks and several more shawls and scarves. I make myself tired. Luckily I don’t sleep much any more. Since the master is retired, we go to bed around six in the morning, I go to sleep around noon, then we get up around six or seven in the evening. What a weird way to live isn’t it? Give the kits a hug for me. I’m a crazy cat lady.

  23. Hiya,
It was great to meet you, especially after I heard what an awesome blog you have (it’s true!). It was fun to visit over lunch, I’m so lucky Valerie was kind enough to let me accompany her! BTW, found the Wilton paste dyes at Hobby Lobby since we didn’t see a Micheal’s on the way home. We used them today and are still awaiting results, but so far so good. Anyways, thanks again…hope work is going good!
