TGIFO

Behold – the 70s Kitchen Socks are complete! Although it doesn’t look like it in this picture, they are the same size. I knit one from each end of the ball of yarn, and the sock on the left turned out quite a bit more orange than the one on the right.

So, let’s sit back and see what happens when you leave a freshly knitted pair of socks on the floor around here, shall we?

Oh, look, it’s May!

“I’m pretty sure they aren’t bibs, big kitty!” -M

“Hmm, better let me check, May.” -C

“You’re right, May, these are definitely not bibs. But I’m not sticking around, just in case Mom tries to put them on me anyway.” -C

“Don’t worry, big kitty! I’ll keep an eye out.” *slurp slurp slurp* -M

“You know what – I bet they’re a fancy new cat bed! Hmm, very cushy…” -M

  1. They do look comfy and warm! Hee hee, everytime I read your blog, and see pictures of Chaos and May lounging around on knitted items, I just want to go home and go to bed! They look so cosy…

  2. They turned out nicely! I like the colorway, but then those are the colors our kitchen was when I was little. And I just like those colors, period.

  3. We were talking about 70’s appliance colorways last night! At least the cats only lay around on the socks, the doggies here, they love to take socks and run with them. We have lost a few to big games of tug and chase. Thankfully nothing hand made or expensive (though they were wool!).

  4. Hey Chris- It’s a scientific fact: anything placed or dropped on the floor that’s made of yarn is magnetic to felines.

And I’m having flashbacks of “Harvest Gold” and “Avocado Green”!

  5. Every night, my more skittish kitty, Ziggy waits until the kids go to sleep and then he slinks out and sneaks into the playroom. The sounds from the room sound as if there are 400 cats in there with every toy. He’ll come flying out ears back and all freaked-out looking. Then he settles, cleans himself and slowly re-enters the playroom for more fun with the 400 cats. I need a nightvision camera to just see what the heck he’s doing.

  6. Poor May, she’s dilusional. Those aren’t a kitty bed, they are cat sleeping bags! You don’t sleep on them, you sleep in them.

  7. You KNOW your socks are the best, when the cat(s)lay on them. I actually bought a pair of socks that Felix scorned so much, I found them later, in his litter box. Grrr.

I just bought some sock yarn that he adores; let’s see what happens.

  8. I like those colors in socks, but in the kitchen? That’s just too close to home — literally. My parents remodeled the kitchen (that is now mine) in tangerine orange, avocado green and dark brown — oh, and the walls were yellow! So far, the orange counters and the dark, dark cupboards are the only things left. Oh, wait! And the avocado green stove and oven that can’t be replaced because they are an odd size. Ugh!

I do love the socks, tho! Nice name. 🙂

  9. hahaha! Our house had those colors – gold carpet in a room, that green in the dining room (in wallpaper and carpet, no less), and all three, plus brown, in the kitchen wallpaper and linoleum. Of course, our house also had a lovely bright blue carpet and the baby’s room (that’d be my brother who is now 25) was shag in just those colored stripes! So hilarious. And my oven and sink are currently that gold color. Hideous.

  10. Yay for 70s Appliance Socks! The colorway is called Rare Gems isn’t it? Maybe that’s because 70s appliances are rare gems to be found these days. 😉

They look great by the way!

  11. It never fails to crack me up to see them investigate EVERY piece of knitting you put on the floor. Cocoa could care less, unless I’m currently working on it and she wants to be in my lap.

  12. Those are so 70’s colors! They look much nicer as socks than shag carpet or kitchen appliances.

That May. She’s so helpful! Keeping the poor things warm like that.

  13. Hah, yes in that first picture May has this look on her face: ‘Silly Human, you’ve left your Knit Socks out in the Dangerous Attack Zone — You just know I have to confiscate these now…’

Very nice socks. I don’t see anything wrong with 70s Kitchen colours ;o) would go well with blue jeans ;o)

  14. they do look 70s–not colors I would typically associate with you

and, duh, until your post I never thought about having to knit for sizes of socks and gloves and mittens!

  15. Lovin’ those socks – same as Chaos & May obviously 😉

You are good – I whip anything away from Thunder just in case – his teeth bite through yarn in nanoseconds….
