Socktopus!

I’m sure many of you still haven’t recovered from seeing the rainbow Jaywalker socks the other day, but for those who have and fell in love with the yarn, it might be available again – I just saw it in the Patternworks catalogue (Regia 5399, aka “Fun Nation”). For those curious about my maryjanes, they are Keen Seattles in black.

A while ago, Jeanne got me the coolest present – a Socktopus!

This clever gizmo (formerly known to IKEA as a “JABBA Hanging Dryer with 16 Clips” and now as a “PRESSA Hanging Dryer with 16 Clothes Clips” – boring) is perfect for hanging handknit socks to dry out of harm’s way.

I know you’re all familiar with Harm:

“How dare you say something like that! Look at how adorable I am!” -Mayhem
*snort* -Chaos

  1. I love the hanging dryer, I need to get one. Were you able to rescue your sweater yesterday. I think you need to get a childs playpen for those 2.

  2. Harm – or why I have my clothes rack in my bedroom, leaving me with about 2×2 feet of maneuvering space on laundry days!

I love the socktopus! I need to get one too!

  3. Cool present! I’ve been considering one since I saw Jeanne’s on her blog. If I knit lots of socks for myself this year, I’ll definitely need one. I kind of wish it came in different colors, though.

  4. would having a socktopus inspire me to actually knit more socks? for myself?

I see a side-trip to IKEA happening with that Knit Out event at the MoA…

  5. LOL! I need a socktopus. Whenever I hang my socks to dry on the wooden drying rack, Katie uses it as an opportunity to knock them down and play with them.

  6. That socktabpus is perfect. I’ve seen similar things but never even thought about the practicality for knit items.

    Thanks for mentioning my project.

  7. Wow – love the Socktopus, but I coudl forsee it as also being an irresistible draw for Chaos and Mayhem (Harm’s Way, that could be their new band name!) to leap and see who can score the most socks from the new toy ;o)

Cute playing pose – did Chaos get a paw up his nose or is he just being sarcastic?

  8. Very cool Socktopus, and a much better name than what IKEA came up with.

May is certainly a smart alec. When I was a kid, my brother and I could tell when our cat was in a mood to misbehave. We would call it “looking for naughties.” I think Mayhem may also get into this mood from time to time.

  9. Gosh, I’d love a Socktopus, but Lucy thinks it is her duty to lie on drying socks to keep them warm. I don’t think I can hurt her feelings be depriving her of that . . .

  10. OH I need one of those! JinBao is a self admitted “sock killer”. He will grab the sock and shake it back and forth until he thinks it’s “dead” then he kind of scratches at it with his paw and finishes it off by rolling on it.

  11. It’s a sock mobile! The perfect gift for knitter parents. You can entertain your baby and dry your socks at the same time…

I should have been in advertising.

  12. Love the Socktopus – may have to get me a couple!
In my house “harm” is the large brown doggie – he loves to lick him some wet wool socks.

  13. She has a point, she is adorable.

Does the Socktopus come in a different color?

Thanks for posting Rebekah’s project, I hadn’t gotten to her blog yet! Rebekah and Nick could use a blankie of love too.

  14. I love the socktopus! Serioulsy, you have no idea how excited I am that an ikea is opening up (one more month, baby) in the middle of nowhere – right near where I live.
May, often times cute and trouble are the same thing – consider it a compliment.

  15. Heh – when I saw that I also thought it should be called a socktopus, lol…

And Diablo totally has the same facial bone structure as Chaos with that prominent brow ( you can really see it in those profiles!). No question of their relation, lol…
