In which Chaos receives a love letter

Argh! I screwed up the link to Danielle’s contest yesterday… Thanks to Jeanne for letting me know. Here’s the contest info again: Danielle won a big ol’ bag of yarn from Mason-Dixon Knitting and is celebrating by having her first contest! Leave a comment for her, guessing what she’s knitting (toadstools maybe??) before noon on Tuesday, August 29.

Ok, Marina alerted me to one of the most mind-boggling garments ever, as photographed by Susan of therainysisters.com. You’ll scroll down through many lovely pictures of Susan’s award-winning State Fair knitting, but keep going until you just have to stop and say, “WTF?!” You’ll know which picture. I’ll wait……….. Ok, wouldn’t that be fun to wear someplace dressy?? Hee hee. Sock monkey insanity…

Deb and I took Annie Modesitt’s combined knitting class at Creative Fibers last night. (Amy couldn’t make it because she was sick – get better soon, Amy!) So I often knit combined (picking/continental) already – you cannot beat it for speedy seed stitch in the round. Or, as I realized last night, ribbing back and forth. I picked up some tips on combined knitting decreases and we also learned to cable without a cable needle, which is very slick indeed.

But the most exciting part of the class? Getting there. Right as I was about to leave, a mighty storm assaulted Minneapolis. It didn’t look like the sort of weather I should go out into, but darn it, I had a class to get to… Memorable images from the drive include water geysering several feet up out of a storm drain, people with their pant legs rolled up and carrying their shoes wading across streets in knee-deep water (when it’s raining that hard, I’m not sure what the benefit to carrying your shoes is), and having to turn around and take a different route because the water was too deep for my low slung car. No pictures, because I was far too busy clutching the steering wheel and peering out past the flailing wipers, looking out for deep water.

So, you’re probably all curious about the aforementioned love letter. It was sent anonymously, signed only “Miss Kitty,” and reads:

My Dearest Chaos, For some time now I have been reading your blog on-line and each day I fall in love with you a little more. You are so handsome and regal, even when you are subjected to cruel tortures such as modeling bibs for your mommy. I know we can never be together, but I shall always love you from afar. Always, Miss Kitty. P.S. I hope you like the gift. I saw it in the store and of course thought of you.

The gift is a little collar tag that says “PURRfect.”

When asked who this could possibly be from, the Chaos Kitty merely looked coy and a bit smug.

“Hard to say. Chicks dig me, you know.”

  1. I can’t believe someone made that let alone would want to wear it, that was one of the weirdest knitted items I have ever seen. Chaos looks sooo content and in love.

  2. That last picture is fabulous.. I’m starting to wonder how his big head is fitting through the doorways of your apartment though! Your Chaos is quite a charmer.. that’s for sure!

  3. That was quite the storm. The view of the pitch-black sky from the top of Calhoun Square’s parking ramp was pretty impressive. And scary.

I’m glad you enjoyed the class – it sounded quite cool.

  4. hahahahaha the sock monkey dress is gorgeous in all of it’s vestimentary wrongness. you have to admit that it’s a beautiful piece of work if not totally unwearable.

  5. ROFLOL! The dresses are just too funny – in light of the fact I made 2 sock monkeys for the 2 DGS’s this past Xmas (but WHO would wear those?).
Chaos looks quite suave and debonair in his nonchalant acceptance of his fan mail!

  6. I think Just-A-Knit-Wit should win a comment prize because I just laughed out my Cap’n Crunch all over the desk and can’t stop laughing singing that song now. Remind me to tell you the nightmare I had about last night’s class!!

  7. OK, that dress is beyond description. I can’t wait to see it!

One time I was having dinner with some friends for my birthday and for some reason I had to run out to my car during a really bad storm – maybe I left a window open? Anyway, the rain was just flowing very quickly along the curb into the drains, almost like a river, and it managed to steal one of my shoes off my foot and carry it away. So, that could be why someone would carry their shoes. It was a pretty impressive storm last night – you were dedicated to drive in it!

  8. Sheesh even Chaos has a better lovelife than me. LOL Maybe you could ask him if he has any tips for us poor love-less schmoes? 😉 Glad you made it to the class ok!

  9. Well, Chaos IS very special, of course!!

That dress? Thank you for the link, because I would NOT have wnated to miss that. Sheesh. So much work, beautifully executed, but . . . unfortunately, that’s what should happen. That dress should be executed.

  10. Hi Chris- When I have a class to attend- nothing stops me- nothing!
I’ve suspected for some time about Chao’s secret life, and now we know. Goes with being a Knitting Blog Celebrity, I guess.

  11. Glad you made it safely to and from class. We just got rain and a little wind here in n.w. WI, but #1 son was playing tour guide around Mpls for a couple friends from the U of Chicago who were passing through on their way to northern MN. Unlike you, he parked the car and sat out the storm in their hotel room. Sometimes, actually on a fairly regular basis, Mother Nature reminds us of her power. Check out the photos at June’s blog http://www.twosheep.com/blog/?p=456.

  12. O M G. I love monkeys. I doubly love sock monkeys. I can see the humor, but I wince at the waste of sock monkey yarn. Which, btw I CANNOT find anywhere to save my monkey a$$.

  13. That dress could be a living legend at ThreadBared or Stitchy McYarnpants.

Awwww, Chaos has a secret love.

I think there should be an internet poll, who is Bloglands favorite cat? Wendy’s Lucy, or Chaos.

    :o)

    I vote for Chaos….

  14. I needed a good giggle today ;o) Thanks for linking to the sock monkey dress(es)! I’ve been there on the street flooding – a whole night trying to get across town in Fargo! Glad you made through it with your low-slung car!

Chaos has a secret admirer, oh the suspense and heartbreak!

  15. I showed the sock monkey dress to David and his jaw dropped (he has a thing for sock monkeys).

I miss the MN State Fair. I especially miss cheese curds with Leinie’s.

  16. OK, Gandalf is now idolizing Chaos – he’s in awe of his ways with the chicks, even though he’s still at the age where he thinks they have cooties.

OK, that must have been. Some. Class. Man, to go through on that weather (I saw some footage on the news here). Course, I understand perfectly because if it were Alice or Jade Starmore I’d have hijacked the Marine Unit’s Zodiac boat to get there.

  17. Oh, no. Halley read Cabin Cove this morning and was horrified that Miss Lulu might steal Chaos. Now, after reading this, she’s sobbing under the bed. Oh, what to do, what to do! I might have to go to the vet for some anti-depresants if she keeps this up.

  18. Chaos…I hope you aren’t just a PLAYA! What an adorable little love letter, though. Reminds me of a song I learned in 3rd grade music class (sing with me!):

“Oh Senor Don Gato was a cat…
On a high red roof Don Gato sat.
He was there to read a letter,
    (meow, meow, meow)
where the reading light was better,
    (meow, meow, meow)
    …twas a LOVE NOTE for Don Gato…”

There is another verse, but I will spare your comment box. Anyone else know that song??

Just a little ditty for you, Chaos. I mean, Senor Don Gato…

  19. So many girl cats, so little time. 🙂

That sock monkey dress is a riot! I’ve driven in storms like and they are absolutely no fun. Glad you got to your class safe and sound though.

  20. water geyers, and yet you persevered? ! Way to go!
and that Chaos – well, let me just say that the ‘girls’ at our house wait with baited breath for the moment when they catch a glimpse of that hunk … but no,the gift was not from them 🙂

  21. Gosh, I hope noone breaks the terrible news to all of Chaos’ female fans – he’s had a little op, right?
Boy, sounds like the drive was fun, NOT! I drove in heavy rain in WA in an unfamiliar car that had a cracked and pitted windscreen and wipers that didn’t wipe at dusk, hoping no kangaroos jumped out in front of me…. that was enough fun for me.

  22. The Cat, I’m sad to say, is too lazy and self-centered to send such a sweet love note. She’s more likely to admire Chaos’ tuna from afar than Chaos himself.

But we aren’t surprised that he’s inspired passion in *someone’s* heart. He’s one handsome dude…

  23. Chaos –

I’m back online now that my mom’s back from vacation, so we can continue our plans to take over the world. Or at least to get out of modeling girly knitting.

    Your Friend In Black,

    Cricket
