A little of everything

Very sleepy today. Set my alarm wrong and only Chaos being naughty and knocking something over woke me at anywhere close to my regular time. So be warned – I’m even less coherent than usual!

Another thrift store find – perfect Project Spectrum April colors, eh?

I’ve also started knitting (brace yourselves for the surprise) another sock, in a very Project Spectrum Opal that Christine sent me for losing a contest.

To reassure Marina, who’s concerned that I seem to be knitting nothing but socks these days, here’s a picture of the cage liner I started knitting last night. Chris is collecting 6″x6″ acrylic squares to be sewn into cage liners for her local Humane Society, although I decided I could certainly manage a 24″x24″ cage liner for some poor kitty looking for a home.

Halloween or Project Spectrum?

For those wondering if Chaos really is that curious (leading to many pictures with him in them), yes. He’s a very curious, busy guy and he keeps a close eye on me. Of course, that said, you’ll have noticed that he isn’t in any of the pictures above. That’s because he’s been very busy keeping an eye on birds through the window:

“Mmmmm…..”

  1. That is one…. one… Well, that’s a tea cozy, all right. I find it’s so key to have one’s knitted accessories match both one’s decor and one’s butter. I’m sure Emily Post may have said something about it. 😉

That’s some good looking Opal. I’ve never had an opportunity to knit with it. How does it work up?

    Windows = kitty tv.

  2. Rene – Heh, there’s a toaster cozy that matches the strangely orange margarine, too. 😉

Trek – I am sooooo not a yellow knitter. This sock is pushing the envelope for me!

The Opal – This is the first “regular” Opal I’ve knitted with (I’ve used the Opal handpaint before). I can tell these will be sturdy socks, but the yarn is making my fingers feel strangely raspy.

  3. I’m always looking for old knitting books whenever I go to the thrift store or the library book store. Got to love that tea cozy on yours. 🙂

    I like that sock yarn.

  4. I’m so glad you explained what a “cage liner” is. My poor kitty gets newspaper but then he only gets to go into the cage maybe, once a year.

No comment about the other thing 😉

  5. hee hee, Carmen sits at the window and drools over lizards. However, every once in a while, when one gets in the house, she’s useless and hasn’t a clue what to do with it.

  6. I’m no yellow fan either, but the socks are nice and sunshiney. Great for a dreary, damp, cold day!

I love it when mine spot the birds outside and start chattering and mewing at them.

  7. Does Chaos go outside at all? My parents had a gorgeous Maine Coon Cat who adopted them right around the time I was born. He would bring them birds, mice, moles and lovingly place them at the back door and scratch to get in. Yes, scratch to get in. When they would come to the door he’d look up all proud, tail thrashing, as if to say, “Look what I provided for my family today! Aren’t I just the best!?!?!” And he truly was. I need to find some good photos of him to put on my blog. I miss Mooch even today. If I were to ever get a cat, which will be difficult with a cat-hating husband, it would be another Maine Coon.

  8. i love old books. when i was maybe 7 or 8, my mother crocheted a big rug for our den. that’s when i first learned. she taught me on that big old rug, and would let me do some of the rows. anyway, when i got back into crochet about 3 years ago, i went on an ebay old book shopping spree and one of the those books had the same exact rug pattern. one day i will make it.

and i also love to look at kitties from behind when they’re sitting. i don’t know why. call me a weirdo

  9. Your sock looks like a cap for a tiny baby at this stage.
Did you know they actually have bird videos for cats to watch? I think my cats would know the difference though.

  10. Chaos REALLY enjoyed March of the Penguins. He watched the entire thing, probably thinking “Mmmmm… penguin babies…” So I brought home Winged Migration – nope, not interested in it after a few minutes. I think there were too many ducks to hold his interest and not enough things making pathetic peeping noises…

  11. You’ve really had good luck at the thrift shop! Seems the only thing I ever find is stuff that I leave there.
Very cute socks, I need to try the toe up thing again.

  12. I missed Chaos. I’m feeling better about being home just seeing him. Nice find at the thrift shop. I don’t think I even know what a thrift shop is let alone where to find one. That’s what I thought Target was! I feel the same way about Opal – kind of rips up the fingers after a while but every one loves it so you have to knit with it.

  13. Would Chaos know what to do with one of those birds? My last apartment had a balcony, and Charlotte and Aggie spent lots of time out there. Charlotte once managed to catch a bird that dive-bombed her on the balcony, then brought it in to me! A little too much excitement for all involved…..

  14. Rene, I believe the word you were looking for is UGLY. That is an UGLY tea cozy.

Yeah, I know…we’re not supposed to say stuff like that. And if you think that tea cozy rocks your world, more power to you. But dude…that’s an ugly tea cozy.

  15. SNAP! I was another sleepy head this morning! Slept through the alarm going off 3 times!
Loving those yellow socks! Keep pushing that envelope 🙂

  16. ;o) very neat socks you’re knitting! I had to look three times to see the teapot in the teacozy as well.

I’ve seen people using weaving frames to make cage liners out of cotton yarn – but knitting would be easier for most people! That is a very good idea!

Chaos, remember no matter what the birds tell you, you cannot fly. My girls make little ‘chirpy’ question noises to me about the birds — I’m not sure if I want to know what they want me to do ;o) Does Chaos ‘talk’ to you at all about what he sees?

  17. Man. that is SOME tea cozy. And is it just me, or is that like an abnormally large teapot?
Hi Chaos! Do you get to go outside and watch the birds too, or are you an indoor kitty?
A co-worker of mine had a cat that would bring her “presents…” except they were never dead. He’d just bring live critters into the house and let them go. Distressed my poor co-worker to no end.

  18. Does Chaos make the little wacka-wacka bird noise when he watches birds? My cats all do. And it looks like I will soon have numbers five and six added to the household. GAH! I’m well on my way to being a crazy old cat lady. You’d tell me if I’d begun to smell funky, wouldn’t you?

  19. Chaos looks like he has a nice sitting spot at the window..is that a cat-scratching post with multi-purposes? My girls just ignore the kitty scratching posts and head for the upholostered chair. Lucky for them, the winodws are at kitty height–come down to 8-10″ above the floor. I do have to occasionally clean the…ah hem…’cat spit’… on the window at that level tho’.

  20. Loved the cat songs! 🙂

I have some socks on the needles from two years ago that appear to be that same color. It is so sunny and spring like!
