Random gardening (Wednesday again?!)

Both Mouse and Jane had this fun game on their sites. I thought this was particularly apt:

Cybernetic Handcrafted Android Optimized for Sabotage

Yesterday I actually found a few fun things at my local thrift store:

That first book (Knit Knacks for the Whole Family) is a particular gem. It has patterns for leotards. It has pattern for bonnets that will put “Oswald Owl,” “Klotilde Kat,” or “Lionel Lion” on the back of your head (can fit all sizes!). Cabled argyle socks. A sequined hood. Both a French shrug and an English shrug (the French shrug is frilly, while the English shrug is no nonsense). Interestingly shaped tanks tops/vests called “popovers.” A fringed pixie hat. And more…

Jeanne’s blog entry yesterday has some completely hysterical pictures in it and a Chaos connection – check it out! Plus a lovely picture of more Debbie Bliss Alpaca Silk than I’ve seen anywhere outside a store…

Several people asked whether I purchased anything at Coldwater Collaborative on Sunday. Why, yes, as a matter of fact, I did… (Oh, come on – no one’s surprised about that.)

A skein of Meilenweit ColorTweed (it looks a lot like Trekking to me) and a skein of Mountain Colors Bearfoot.

If you’re wondering whether I ever actually knit, I’m working on a pair of socks for myself right now. They definitely have the Project Spectrum colors in them. The pattern is Dublin Bay (links to a pdf) and the yarn is from ebay seller lotusblossom in color RoseGarden2.

“I beg your pardon…”

“I’m going to chew up your RoseGardens!”

  1. I *love* argyle. I used to have a fabulous pair of grey argyle socks, but they weren’t made of yarn. Or wool. 🙂

And in that first picture of yarn, for a split second I thought that darker yarn (would that be the Bearfoot? LOL I’m such a beginner…) was, er…Chaos.

  2. Now I clicked on the pattern link. I have to make those! It only takes one skein of that yarn, right? That’s what it looked like yardage wise. Like I really need another sock project, but I must!

  3. What great finds! Cabled argyle socks sound awesome.

Chaos looks like he’s having some yarn withdrawals. I think he got a taste of the fiber with the mini-skein.

  4. Love the sock yarn you got! & the Rose Garden came out so well. I love Lotusblossom yarn – I have tons of it. Pretty much my whole sock stash actually!

  5. Love the picture of the blog reading kitty.. I’d better not let mine see it or she’ll insist on reading them too.
The Rose Garden sock yarn is gorgeous! I also have the same colorway of Mountain Colors (it looks like Mountain Twilight to me) but haven’t started on any socks with it yet.

  6. What fun vintage books! That Meilenweit really does look like Trekking, too. Your Dublin socks look wonderful! I love that Rose Garden colorway you’re using- and your song reference, as well. 😉 Take care, Chris! 🙂

  7. Wow…I so could not have predicted how Rose Garden would look knit up. It’s gorgeous, but a complete surprise.

    A knit leotard? Really? That’s sounds really…uncomfortable.

  8. I want a “Lionel Lion” bonnet. I have no idea what that would look like exactly, but I’m willing to bet Hoop wouldn’t go out in public with me wearing one. You should make a Chaos sized one. 🙂

  9. bright coloured sock yarn?? For yourself?? hummm thought you only liked black lady 🙂
Chaos is going celeb, being featured on other blogs 🙂

  10. Of course it’s no surprise that you pruchased something at the LYS, not at all. Hmm, it’s really funny to me that there was a pattern for both the French and English shrugs. And popovers, very funny name.

The Meilenweit sock yarn looks just like some Trekking sock yarn I have at home. Interesting.

Love the new socks you’re knitting. They look great!

  11. I wondered how many people would recognize the songquote, and *that* made me feel olllllld…
    😀

    Love the yarn – Shiny!

  12. Vintage knitting magazines are so much fun to browse through, and every now and then I find a few patterns I like.

Somehow I’m not surprised that you picked up a skein of Bearfoot. :-)It’s one of my favorite sock yarns. The Dublin Bay socks are looking good too.

  13. very pretty socks! Nice finds, I have some Spinnerin books sitting about as well.

I’m seeing trails, and some of them are black.. oh wait that is Chaos attacking your foot ;o)

  14. I love the Dublin bay pattern!! How do you like knitting it? The colorway is fantastic!!

Oh & great finds by the way!! I want you to knit up those hats!

  15. Yummy Meilenweit…I do love a tweedy yarn…hmmm there might be a matching skein in the stash at my house. Nice Rose Garden yarn and sock pattern. I hadn’t seen that one before, so of course I immediately printed it out (I’m a compulsive pattern collector). Aren’t old knitting books a hoot!?

  16. Thanks for my daily Chaos fix. Had a crappy day yestarday and REALLY needed cheering – he’s just what the doctor ordered. Dublins are definatley making the trip to Florida next week.

  17. So much sock yarn porn! Love it! That lovely Meilenweit Cotton has caught my eye at my LYS, probably because it is so similar to Trekking 😉

LOVE the RoseGarden – looks like Chaos does too! The Dublin Bay pattern looks nice in that yarn.

    Have a good one, Chris!

  18. This post needed a sock pron warning. : ) I actually just posted about my current SOTN in lotusblossomon’s Rosegarden. I didn’t know there was a Rosegarden2! The striping effect on yours is wonderful. : )

I am in love with that Twilight…it’s on my wishlist now.
