“Um, what am I doing?” -Mayhem
Never mind, May… It’s been a while since we looked at vintage knitting booklets, hasn’t it? So let’s peruse Hand Knits for Men (revised, 1961)… Feel free to caption amongst yourselves, although let’s try not to make my hit statistics too interesting, eh?! In a rare show of restraint, I’ve confined my captions to the picture titles – hover your mouse pointer over the pictures to see. 😉
Have a wonderful weekend, everyone!
You’re gonna ralph pretty quickly if you open up the booklet, May!!
Good gravy, that backgammon sweater is just beyond words.
Thanks for the giggle. I was especially tickled by the guy with the pipe, dunno why. And the guy in the penultimate picture is saying “I’m so cool I don’t need sunglasses to look at the sun.”
LOL, too funny. I think I’m going to make hubby the diamond in the black, yellow and gray
strangely I see possibilities in that cardigan with the slimming white stripes….not that I’d ever knit a whole sweater.
Have a great weekend.
I love old pattern books!
Sure, after searing my retinas with indelible digital photgraphs you wish me a nice weekend. How am I supposed to delete those images? I can’t f-disk my head! ;o)
Happy Friday!
I thought I was on the Rose-Kim blog on Thursday for What the Hell is This?!
I don’t know what is more amusing… the sweaters or the models and their poses. I have some 1980’s pattern magazines which make these look modern and normal… Scritches to Mayhem and Chaos. Hope you’re not pushing the recovery too hard.
Hehe 🙂
Mayhem looks alarmed, and I can see why. I think its the poses that are most amusing–although the colorwork sweaters are a tad frightening–not to mention the guy with the riding crop! I rather like the pullover in the last photo. Have a great weekend yourself!
Chris- What’s REALLY scary is that my DH has Lego-man snap-on hair like that!
(aren’t we mean?)
Aah, the days when men were manly. Ha!
I wonder if poking yourself in the head with a pipe improves your fashion sense any?
Hmmm, is it wrong that I think that some of those sweaters are actually pretty stylish? Not all of them, but there’s a few 😉
LOVE the captions, Chris! The sweaters… not so much. (Though it’s hard to tell about the turtleneck worn by riding crop guy. Do you think he comes with English riding boots, too? Those look great on guys, if the have the legs to pull them off… Hmmm.)
Some of those are just creepy…..
(first picture, guy in center) “Daddy! He took my pipe!”
I’m pretty sure I have that booklet myself! Don’t the guy posses just crack you up.
Nice job Mayhem! That guy with the sunglasses looks like he has some major swelling issues?
Backgammon sweater is right! I must find me a 1940’s male model to knit one for. Or not.
You’re looking charmingly adorable today, Mayhem!
I don’t even know where to begin with these pictures. Seriously…
Wow, that all looks so….gay? I loves me some retro fashion.
I think there are a few good sweaters in there! I’m with Dave, but, um, it’s not as ‘gay’ as one of the pattern books I have here that I will eventually blog about. I do like that picture with the crop, he looks ready to use it for his own fun!
I meant to ask you if you saw the black kitty motif sweater in the winter 07 interweave? The Colette pullover by Veronik Avery.
Sitting at a table with binoculars? Must be pervs!
I love these!! Your captions are always the best. Number one and two made me laugh out loud. Thank God everyone else at work left early.
Hmm, htat pic second from the bottom..it looks like my husband’s now long gone favorite sweater! Is there any way I could buy that off you? Or find a copy somewheres?
The two guys next to the car: “And I spent $150 just to buy the yarn for this sweater I’m wearing.” “Man, that’s crazy. You should have gone to Knitpicks.”
Wow, Mayhem has some mad photo naming skilz!
🙂
On request of Chris not wanting to put her parental warning into a higher status…i will refrain from making any comments paraphrasing to the photos! *smile* sorry, was a slow day at work and i’m feeling punchy! Smirk!
I love these!! I’d tell you to do the vintage knits more often, but I think it’s more entertaining this way!
I’m with Dave – they all look very gay.
gotta love that retro stuff.
What the heck was it about the 50s to produce such big guys with such teensy tinesy leetle heads? 🙂
Please – the time capsule was meant to stay locked until 2050.
I love old pattern books, they also contain great patterns.
Where is the beautiful Chaos, your last few posts have only had lovely Mayhen
but,
I miss my fave cyber kitty boy!!
I dunno. I think the guy with the pipe is chucking his head with “I coulda had a V-8!”
instead of a smoke…
(((hugs)))
I tell what, that second picture almost made me poke my eyes out. LOL! The guy with the pipe looks like he’s trying to tap in a brain drain. 🙂
They must not move around a lot. Look at their perfectly pressed pants!
Those are priceless!
The third photo from the bottom the guy on the right is saying, “Dude! That vest makes you look fat!”
