In which I finish another pair of socks (no surprise, that)

Amy and Miss T came over to knit on Tuesday and brought me Chipotle! They got party favors. 😉

Reading Update
Twilight by Stephenie Meyer. This is the first book of the Twilight Saga and after reading it, I’m itching to read the next two! This is a young adult vampire story with a few twists, set in the Pacific Northwest. I couldn’t put it down.
Me and Mr. Darcy by Alexandra Potter. I know there are a few *a-hem* P&P fans out there… I picked this up because of the title and brought it home because of the intriguing premise outlined on the back cover. Most chicklit is just “ho-hum,” but this was quite good – if you’re a P&P fan, I recommend it!
Nerd Gone Wild by Vicki Lewis Thompson. Totally trashy romance, picked up for $0.25 at the “withdrawn” shelf at the library. It was silly, it was fun, it was trashy – and I might pick up another one or two of her other Nerd novels.
Wish You Were Here: A Mrs. Murphy Mystery by Rita Mae Brown and Sneaky Pie Brown. Actually, I believe this was the first Mrs. Murphy mystery. It took me a while to get into the book, but it turned out to be a decent read. I’m told that the series sort of falls apart after a certain point…
24 Declassified: Vanishing Point by Marc Cerasini and 24 Declassified: Chaos Theory by John Whitman. I read these not expecting much, but Chaos Theory was darn good (and not just because of the title). It would actually make a really good episode of 24.
The Fourth Bear: A Nursery Crime by Jasper Fforde. This is the second book in the Nursery Crimes series, which spun off from the Thursday Next novel The Well of Lost Plots. A different cast of characters, but I’m enjoying this series as much as I do the Thursday Next novels.
Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agness Nutter, Witch by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett. This was laugh out loud funny – I can’t believe I hadn’t read it before!

Knitting Update
For all the relaxing I’m doing, I sure don’t seem to be accomplishing much knitting. Puzzling, that. Anyway, I finally finished a pair of 9-to-5 Socks using Trekking 167 (a new color).

“Hmph. They aren’t a MGWT, that’s for sure!” -Mayhem

“But I suppose they are acceptable as a cat bed.” -Mayhem

  1. Judging by the list of books, I guess you haven’t discovered the reality court shows, soapies, “prime time in the day time” on TNT, etc.

  2. LOVE the socks…love.them.so.much.
Have emailed her for the pattern as it won’t download to me 🙁
And that color of Trekking is in my future, I can feel it!
    🙂
    GORGEOUS socks.
    (((hugs)))

  3. Terrific pattern + yarn marriage! Despite her reticence, I think May agrees. 🙂

It also sounds as though you’re learning to pace yourself and have a better handle on what you can and can’t do right now. Hope you continue with the steady recovery.

  4. Your body is healing and that takes all your energy. You’re reading and knitting may not be what you expect but that’s okay. Relax and enjoy the calm.

  5. been lurking for quite a while–

is that trekking color red and black and grey and white? It’s hard to tell from the monitors. I’ve been looking for that color combo. My sis is a Univ of Georgia fan, and their colors are red and black.

I always enjoy your book reads. It gives me titles to add to my list. As for the Mrs. Murphy reads, I’ve read most, and I don’t find that they fall apart. I’ve enjoyed each one immensely. I’ll have to go looking for this title, since I have not read it yet.

    🙂

  6. Nice socks! The pattern works well with that yarn, and it goes well with May. You’re still healing so you don’t have the energy you normally would have.

  7. I thought of you and your party favors this morning as Kashka was batting a bullet-shaped one around the bathroom. (note to self: put them away when emptying pockets before laundry.) if you don’t find enough people to pawn them off on, the small ones make good cat toys. 😉

love the colors on the Trekking socks!

  8. Great socks! Such nice colors in that Trekking, and I like how the stripes turn out in the 9-5 pattern. I’ll have to check out my supply of self-striping yarn as I have the pattern. May always seems very possessive of your new socks.

  9. Well, if you got your MOm to tie them to a stringm and then tie the other end of the string to a stick, they could be a MTST (Magic Trekking Sock Toy).

  10. Well, if you got your Mom to tie them to a string and then tie the other end of the string to a stick, they could be a MTST (Magic Trekking Sock Toy).

  11. Go ahead, Chris. Rub the sock thing in my face. I have started this ONE pair of socks three times now.

My daughter wants a Magic Goldfish Wand Toy for her Fifi. Are they only available in Minnesota?

  12. OH MY!! I LOVE LOVE LOVE Good Omens!! In fact my sister told me to buy my own copy because I couldn’t borrow hers anymore!

oh, and cute socks too! 🙂

  13. Mmm since reading your blog is about the closest I’ve been to knitting in a long time, I think you’re fabulous for getting another sock done. 🙂

and I’ll show my ignorance, what is P&P??????

  14. I read Twilight a while back and I really enjoyed it. I’m glad she wrote others to follow it. When I actually get some pleasure reading time, I plan on picking them up. Nice socks!

  15. I think finishing a pair of socks in anything less than a month is truly remarkable. Maybe Miss May would find them appealling if you put the sock on a string and bounced it around???

  16. my youngest daughter loves Stephanie Meyers – and just met her for a book signing in Georgia mid Sept. (grin)
I enjoyed this book too, and look forward to the next. it’s nice light reading.
    your socks are cute.
my two kitties are hoping a make them a real cat bed SOON

  17. I love love Terry Pratchett books. The Discworld series is the best! I can’t read it with hubby around because I have to read all the funny bits out loud.

The Mrs. Murphy series does kinda fall apart after the first dozen or so books. Other suggestions are: the Joe Grey series by Shirley Rousseau Murphy and the Midnight Louie books by Carol Nelson Douglas.

  18. that’s a beautiful pair of socks. I like that new colorway of trekking very much.

I’m glad that you are feeling better. Those walks seem to be helping you mend.

  19. Twilight and the rest of the trilogy was a huge seller this summer. When I worked at the bookstore I used my discount to buy them for my dd, who loved them.

    Love the socks!
