And now I am home

Thanks for all the wonderful comments last week – I’m sure I’ll manage to reply to them all eventually! 🙂 I am convinced that all of the positive energy you’ve been sending my way helped everything go well.

Many thanks to guest blogger Jeanne, who did a great job (especially with the two minute Stumbling Over Chaos blogging tutorial she received). And I would particularly like to thank my brother and SIL, who have been absolutely amazing throughout all of this.

I suspect you won’t be getting the most profound or coherent narratives from me until I’m off the meds (please do not leave medication names in the comments – they’ll draw spam comments, alas). I’ll be using the WordPress timed publish feature these next few weeks, as I’ll be sleeping in and recuperating.

My surgery last Wednesday went very well and was laproscopic – doctors won’t guarantee that it will be laproscopic, because if there are complications, they may need to make an abdominal incision… so you never exactly know until you wake up! I was pretty miserable (whole lotta puking going on) for the next 20 hours or so, until the anesthetic was out of my system and they switched me off the particular medication I wasn’t reacting well to. But by midday Thursday, I was feeling pretty good and was starting to go out for short walks.

Later Thursday afternoon, Deb came to visit and chat and knit. Then my brother and SIL stopped by for a few minutes. After they left, Jeanne arrived and presented me with a gorgeous yarn bouquet from she and Deb! Aw, you guys. 😀

You can see a floral bouquet peeking out from behind – that was from my brother and SIL and contains cat-safe flowers and ornamental peppers. More on that later. *insert ominous foreshadowing music*

Friday I felt wonderful and my doctor said I could go home that afternoon. My brother gave me a ride home, stocked my freezer with homemade gluten-free meals, cleaned the litterbox, and left me to have a quiet evening and wonderful night’s sleep in my own bed. Ahhhhhh… The only downside was Chaos – he was extremely upset that I smelled like the “vet” and spent much of the evening acting out.

Saturday morning I woke up to a bit of a mess. Chaos really liked the flowers and ornamental peppers and felt he needed to knock them over. Fortunately, my dad stopped by later to vacuum and leave a small hand-vac for me. But hey – at least I must’ve finally smelled like me again, because Chaos has been back to normal since early Saturday.

“What dirt on the floor? I don’t see any dirt.” -Chaos

Saturday afternoon, Jeanne came over with a stack of DVDs and some get-well gifts from MrsPao. More on those in a different post, but do you think May liked the gift for she and Chaos?

Jeanne and I spent a lovely afternoon knitting, chatting, and eating Chipotle that Jeanne picked up for us. On Sunday, my friend Wendy stopped by with a gorgeous bouquet of yellow roses – I was a bit nervous about their fate, but the cats don’t seem interested in the roses at all. Now I’m wondering if it’s because the other bouquet is red flowers and the purple peppers – you know how Chaos is about those red mice… Wendy returned a few library books for me – yay!! Later my friend Lisa stopped by with some groceries I needed, plus Thai takeout. Yum! We had a great time chatting, too. I am going to be so spoiled when real life resumes…

  1. It sounds like you’re doing great – sorry I’m not close enough to stop by with a nice meal, but it sounds like your brother and friends are taking good care of you.

  2. Practice the *groan* for when you need a little sympathy – and absolutely RELISH the fact that you really canNOT do much but sit quietly to recuperate. I prescribe several hours’ knitting a day, interspersed with eyeballing of patterns, thumbing through knit magazines &c. And say, you clearly have no dietary restrictions! Chipotle indeed, YUM! I’ll be in touch; if it would be restorative I’d be glad to bring you some Genuine Jewish Bubbe home-made chicken soup when we come up end of the month! That’ll set you right up. {grin}

  3. Boy do I remember the nausea from the anaesthetic after surgery. Awful. At least your kitty waited till you weren’t around to dive bomb the greenery. Someone once gave me a hanging spider plant. So I promptly hung it from the hook in the ceiling. It wasn’t up 10 minutes when I saw a small furry body LEAPING through the air….

  4. Welcome home! I love your description of kitty payback– “acting out” hehe. That must be some medication that you’re taking…. And here we had imagined that you were appropriately “bathed” to remove the medical smell.. It looks like your yarn bouquet was sock yarn. Waiting expectantly for a more detailed description.

  5. glad that you are home….. hospitals are a rotten place to recouperate!
Glad they have you off those icky meds, and now life can resume.. sending you many wishes for pain-free life and no kitty attacks!
Most likely Chaos was angry that you were gone…… they always seem to assert themselves so strongly when we’re home finally :-] (just like little kids.
Be gentle with yourself – pinky swear!

  6. Hooray for good meds and good friends/family.
Take it easy and let yourself heal. There’s nothing like a good afternoon nap… take it from Chaos and May.

  7. So glad you’re home and that the kitties are calming down. Do the roses have baby’s breath in the arrangement? Because every cat I’ve owned (except Harley) has just loved a little snack of baby’s breath!

  8. I’m so happy that you are home and recovering! I wish you a very speedy recovery – you need to be able to play with the kitties!!
(And Chaos– be nice and don’t play in the dirt! instead, just cuddle with mom ok?!)

  9. I loved seeing the pic of you…nice to see a face to the name. (lol, your much younger, lol..like my age than i mentally pictured for one reason or other!)

What a beautiful bouquet..both the flowers and the yarn! Had to crack up about the meds comment as well. I was on med’s a few weeks back…Vicadin (??spelling) causes me to pass out, literally , unless i take half doses..found that out the hard way, lol. (can laugh now)
So your meds comment so made me laugh. Glad your home and can relax and heal!!!

  10. So glad things went well and you are home! Wow, you sure have a lot of people spoiling you, you lucky girl!! Chaos and May are spoiling you, too…in their own way. Isn’t it funny how cats react when you don’t “smell right?” Happy relaxation and recuperation to you! Hope you don’t have to use that mini-vac TOO much….

  11. welcome home! I hope you had a few extra unneeded bits removed for me, since they won’t let me electively get mine removed.

    How’s mobility?

  12. You have the right to be spoiled after all that! You poor thing re: the evil medication – Dave has the same reaction to that one and is miserable for the next twenty hours after they give it to him!

  13. Except for the puking, it sounds like it’s going as well as can be expected, and that’s great! Won’t be long and this will all be just a memory…too bad the yarn bouquet spoilage can’t go on, and on and on… 🙂

  14. Chris, so glad you’re feeling better! Your blog is one of the bright spots of my knitting world and I always enjoy your beautiful photos of yarn, Chaos, and Mayhem! Hope your recovery continues to go well!

  15. Sounds like everyone is teaming together to take really good care of you :)) Glad to hear you in such good spirits and hoping Chaos will be on better behavior after that spurt of mischeviousness!

  16. Glad you are feeling better. Those kinds of meds do the same thing to me. It’s no fun when you are in pain and cant really do much about it. The yarn bouquet means that you have brillant friends. Good luck with the recovery.

  17. Glad it went well.

Hey! That yarn bouquet is quite something. I need to remember to ask for yarn bouquets instead of flowers. Yarn last longer- ya know- especially if they’re dyed in color of vibrant flowers.
