Dragonfly Zzzzzz…

Cheryl is celebrating her blogiversary – leave a comment by midnight, August 23 (aka today!), telling her something about a knitter you know or admire. A randomly selected winner will receive a cool Cabled Sheep mug.

Jess is having a contest – tell her a vacation story, and you could win some gorgeous sock yarn. Leave your comments by midnight CDT, August 31.

I’m still giggling about all the drooling over Colin Firth on Monday! Good thing this is a virtual space, or I’d have a mop out right now.

I was glad to hear that from others who are feeling the blogging doldrums right now. It’s cloudy. It’s humid (but at least it’s cool!). The fog this morning is the thickest I’ve seen in years. It’s been raining enough for southeastern Minnesota to catch up all of its missing rain almost overnight – yikes! My company is in the process of being acquired. *sigh*

So, stupified by the cloudiness, imagine my delight at finding a dragonfly on my car Tuesday. Hello! That dragonfly, that’s an entire blog post! Woo-hoo! 😉

“Hmm, I wonder if dragonflies are tasty. How com you didn’t bring it home for me, Mom?!” -Mayhem

  1. Good luck during and after the acquisition!
My cat would bring me grasshoppers, humming birds and dragon flies as gifts. I’m sure your kitties would love it;-)

  2. Hee hee, can you imagine? I know exactly what would have happened to that poor dragonfly had my guys gotten their paws on him. Beautiful shots, btw!

(Acquisition, shmacquisition…as long as they pay the bills. Heh, we joke around here that we haven’t been bought out since 2004, so we’re due!)

  3. I like what you got on the top of your car much more than what I got on the top of my car. When I was leaving the cottage, I found a dead and dried-up frog splayed across my roof. We did have some fun thinking up how he got there – overzealous hopping, or maybe a clumsy seagull dropping his dinner.

  4. Is that dragonfly real? It TOTALLY looks fake . . . and it’s beautiful! It also looks huge! We get dragonflies here, but they are not so big.

  5. Wow, that looks completely different from our dragonflies here. Ours are turquoise and black. My kitties find those in our region to be bitter and scratchy. But maybe the green ones taste better.

  6. That’s a great shot, there’s a friend of mine that comments on my blog(fairweather zealot) that could identify that species for you if you’re interested.

  7. Great photos! Dragonflies are amazing insects. And since dragonflies eat a lot of the nasty little insects that bite people, they are off limits to kitties like Mayhem. Go kill a housefly, May!

  8. Oh! I didn’t know that info about dragonflies… Thanks Brenda! I like how dragonflies look when they’re flying, but up close and personal… they’re still buggy.

  9. Haven’t seen a dragonfly, but I saw a walking stick bug Monday…made my week…just sitting there on the concrete in front of me. First one I’ve seen outside of Discovery channel.

  10. Aren’t they the coolest and oddest things? (ok ok I know there are cooler and odder) I had to go back and look at the pics after looking at the comments, because I had just assumed it was on a plate in your kitchen.

  11. I just looked again, and I think that one’s newly emerged, a teneral (word for the day, huh?). Its forewings don’t look totally spread out.

  12. Dragonflys are like prehistoric jewels aren’t they! I’ve seen a lot more than usual here this summer, including probably the largest I’ve ever seen. I think his body was well over 4″.

  13. VERY cool dragonfly shots! I’m amazed it stayed there like that. Everytime I grap a camera for a great shot, the suject seems to move on me. This is ESPECIALLY true with the kitties 🙂

  14. Chris- Very artsy shot, but I’m not really a bug person. Especially the kind that are large and buzz loudly.

I much prefer the furry, soft quadrapeds!

  15. Why am I not surprised that May would want to taste the dragonfly? She and my Suzy are two of a kind… we don’t have a spider problem in my house anymore since Suzy came to live with us…

  16. What awesome pictures of the dragonfly, it looks fake!

Oh and Abner says to tell Chaos that dragonflies do not taste good, at all, in fact they are gross and disgusting and should be banned from flying around kennels because dogs overcome by the feeling that they are a cat and should jump and catch things that are flying the air, might just be tempted to eat one.

Oh and Pride and Prejudice, you can’t just watch it once, you have to watch it no less then twice to really get the full sense of it. And next you have to watch Persuasion.

  17. Oh no! Not you too? We finally get Jon all settled and now I have to start worrying about your job? Although I read the link you sent and it sounded to Jon like it’s just a $$ deal. Cool d-fly!

  18. I hope the acquiring doesn’t affect you financially.

I am still trying to get used to the idea of rain in August. Anne at knitspot mentioned it and I was, like, what on earth are you talking about? Here? 101 on the way home. We last saw rain in April and if we’re LUCKY we’ll see it again in October.

It must be nice to live somewhere that has actual seasons — we have hot/dry and cold/foggy. That’s it.

    Sunny California, my Aunt Fannie.

  19. What a great dragonfly! I love them. There was a huge one on my neighbor’s house this evening, I wish I’d gone and taken its picture.

Thanks for the link, BTW. The yarn is truly lovely to knit with – I’m knitting with the skeins I showed last month. Lovely squishy fabric.

  20. Wow, the only dragonfly I’ve seen this year, I found last night in the house dead. I think the cat played with it a few too many times. Good luck with the acquisition. Hopefully it won’t affect you much.

  21. Oh boy, a what a lovely dragonfly! We have little bright blue ones here, mostly. I see the odd bigger one and one tried to knock me out on the bike the other week (but my helmet vs drangonfly head? Ha!).
