Back to reality

Many, many thanks to the Procrastinatrix, who turns out to live three blocks from me and to have had the audiobook of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows just lying around!! I spent the weekend enthralled, listening to 21 hours of Harry Potter and knitting. No spoilers in the comments, please! I really appreciate that I was able to listen to the book without having encountered a single spoiler, and I hope that others are able to do so as well.

But now I must blearily return to reality… I’m further behind in bloglines than ever, so please let me know if you have a contest you’d like me to mention!

I finished the Sockamania Spiralling Socks, which took me exactly one week to complete.

“Hold that thought, Mom. I’ll be back!” -Mayhem

While we wait… The Trekking Pro Natura (wool/bamboo) was ok to knit, but I’m really curious about how these socks feel after they’re washed. Will the bamboo get softer?

“Ok, I’m back! Did you miss me?” -Mayhem

But of course…

“I think these are ok, but I still like those stripey socks more because they’re stripey! When are you going to show them the stripey socks, Mom?” -Mayhem

Shhhhhhhh, Mayhem…..

  1. Wow, more stripey than these? Glad to hear you enjoyed a good weekend with your book! Mark really enjoyed reading it straight through without spoilers too.

  2. Oooo, more stripey to come!? You know, I have a pair of Trekking socks (100% wool though), and although I love the colours, I can’t wear them because I find them too “prickly” on my wee little feets.

  3. I have two balls of ProNatura in my stash, but have yet to knit with it. I too would like to know how they feel after washing. Congrats on finishing the spiralling socks!

  4. How cook is that to live so close to another knitblogger?! I have some reservations regarding the book. Mostly that I wish it were a bit longer and way more detailed. Sounds like a perfect weekend. The spiral socks look wonderful.

  5. I have the first Harry Potter audiobook on its way to me right now. I think I’m the only one in the universe who hasn’t read any of the books yet!

    Nice socks!

  6. Nice socks! Glad you got to enjoy your book without spoilers – I don’t understand some peoples’ need to spoil the ending of the book for others. Not very nice, to say the least.

  7. did you get to give it a second go-round listen? like i said, i missed much detail in my rush to find out what happened the first read-through. very very glad i read it a second time.

  8. I’ll be interested to hear what you think of the socks post-wash. The panda wool seemed soft from the get-go. The panda cotton not so much, though I expect that is mostly due to the cotton and not the bamboo.

  9. Great socks! I really like the colors with the spiral stitch pattern. I think Trek may be onto something about Mayhem being solid colored so she likes striped socks.

I finished Book 7 Friday night. I hadn’t seen a spoiler, but I was afraid I was going to.

  10. I just finished a pair of out Fortissima Socka and the socks didn’t get too much softer. Pretty much the same as regular (read: Trekking, Opal, Regia) get softer.

I got to see the Biteberry yarn in action with Anne last night. That’s pretty stuff.

Not really a contest, but I am running a birthday card exchange on my blog if you wouldn’t mind mentioning it. Thanks!

  11. Julie is not the only person in the universe who hasn’t read HP – any of them. I’m right there with ya!
And…since when is MAYHEM a spoiler???
Or is THAT what she is? Stripey Socks?
    (((hugs)))

  12. Glad you enjoyed it. I’m looking forward to listening to HP7 while doing mindless work this week–I want to see if I pick up on different things than I got out of reading it, um, four times.

  13. Ooooh, is May dropping spoilers? Sounds like she knows something we don’t. (Of course, she’s a cat. She knows lots of things we don’t.)

  14. Very pretty – and yes, I think the bamboo will soften after washed. At least others do. Re-entry is hard isn’t it? I’m doing the same today!!

  15. Nice socks! They should soften up after washing, that’s one of the lovely qualities of pure bamboo yarn so I assume it would have a similar effect in a blend. I am seriously thinking about buying the audiobook for HP – only thing holding me back is the price tag. I haven’t even started reading it, mostly because I can’t knit and read at the same time!

  16. Sounds like a great weekend Chris! What’d you think of the book? I really enjoyed it 🙂 Having never listened to the audio copies, I think I’m gonna put a moratorium on TV this fall and get in a bit of knitting / Harry Potter time each evening. Should do wonders for my knitting productivity!

And I like the socks 🙂 I have some bamboo blend yarn that I think I’m gonna dye up and knit with, since I’m curious to see what it’s like!

  17. Happy to do it, ma’am. I thought about you all weekend, wondering where you were in the book! I definitely suggest listening to it twice through, as someone else said, there was much I missed on the first go round. and there’s plenty of time left on the rental. 🙂

  18. I made some socks with Crystal Palace’s Panda cotton and they are soooo soft. I bet the trekking softens nicely once washed. Let’s see the stripey socks.

  19. What pretty socks!!

no spoilers I promise! but I finished HP7 and a week or so later loaned it to my sister. It took her a couple days to start reading it but she called when she finished and we had us a good chat about it.

it’s such a good book (even if it is the last stinkin’ one!)

  20. Who’s Harry Potter? 😉 Haven’t read any of the HP books, but I think I saw the first film when it came on the telly.

I made hubby some Jaywalkers from Pro Natura, and they’ve softened up beautifully in the wash (no fabric conditioner). My Regia bamboo ones are like butter too, only not as greasy! 😀

  21. I only had one tiny spoiler for HP. I’m glad it wasn’t more! Glad you found a copy to borrow and had a weekend to enjoy it!

Your socks look great. I must make some more, too!
