So who’s going to the Estes Park Wool Market this year? It’s June 16 – 17 in Estes Park, Colorado. Cross your fingers for me – I’m planning to be there! (Shhhh… don’t tell the cats. Remember my thwarted plans last fall?!)
I love the Front Range area of Colorado, but I haven’t been out there since the summer of 2000, when I was in Denver for training and took a long weekend up in Boulder. I haven’t been to Estes Park since the summer of 1993. I’ll share a few pictures from that visit in a minute.
Although lodging with Margene and the Ewe-tah Girls fell through (booked up, alas), it sounds like I will be staying with Kristi and her husband in Fort Collins during the Wool Market. I hope Yarnivorous Lynne has moved to Fort Collins from Australia by then! I’m looking forward to meeting the mysterious Snow, Lisa, and hopefully many more knitbloggers. I’ll also be visiting Michaele in Denver for at least a day or two, probably after the Wool Market.
So, way back in the summer of 1993, a van filled with Forest Recreation grad students set out for a conference in Fort Collins. We definitely explored the area before and after the conference.
The obligatory visit to the Coors brewery in Golden.
A roadside coyote!
We were maybe not dressed appropriately for the hiking conditions…
Is this on the Continental Divide? I don’t remember… I still have that tie-dye tank top and those shorts – although the shorts are maybe too tight right now…
Rumor has it that May might be a Cheshire Cat in training. What do you think?
“What’s this about a vacation?! You can’t leave us alone, Mom!!! Waaaaah!!” -Mayhem
Oh poor kitties! Send them postcards!
Chris- Yeah, I’ve been on a few brewery trips myself- from what I can remember. Which isn’t much.
Sounds like a great trip. I see the Kitty Guilt-trip has already started.
You will love Estes. I had a ball last year.
I’m not going to be there but some of my yarn and fiber will be at the Abq Craftistas booth so I’ll be there in spirit 🙂
I love seeing pictures that people have taken from long ago. It is fun to see how much people have changed, but now I can put a face to your name. 🙂
Estes? Only in my dreams. I’m sure you’ll have a blast tho! Er….you know..when you’re not totally miserable because you had to leave the cats behind….
I’ll keep my paws crossed for you, er .. I mean the cats.
Boy it’s a good thing you’re on a yarn diet. O wait.
Good for you! Have a great time!
Cool pics!
A vacation?
What’s that?
You’d better bring back something good for C&M! They might forgive you…
Oh, my goodness, I am SO jealous! Have a great time.
You can’t tell the kitties you’re leaving until you’re packing! Shhhh! Take it from me…
Heh, nice leather cap! 😀
Great pictures…really makes me want to seriously look into Colorado next year.
Oh, oh! What drama will the kitties create this year!
I hope that you get to go. Sorry I won’t be there this year. Have a family event planned the same weekend. I’m sure you’ll meet more of the Denver Knit Crew there as well!
Ohhhh, I so wish I could go! Unfortunately, I just spent WAY too much money at MSWF, so I don’t think my wallet would be able to handle it.
I sure hope the kitties cooperate this time. I’m really looking forward to your visit!
Oooo, Estes… I’d love to go, but can’t this year. My SIL and her husband live a couple of hours from Estes. Maybe next year…
Please say hello to the mountains for me if you go.. I miss Colorado so! I lived there for about 2 1/2 years (above Boulder) and we would visit Estes every few months… one day I hope to get back there to show my son the state where he was born.
The pictures rock! You are so damn photogenic. You should train Chaos how to take pictures of you so you can post them more often. 🙂
Estes would be delightful, but not for me this year.
May needs to work on her grin.
(sigh)
I WISH. Oh how I WISH. Maybe next year? Would love to catch up with everyone on that side of the country and also see that side of the country for the first time!
🙂
(just keep the kitties guessing…?)
Cheshire Cat in training…definitely!
(((hugs)))
Maybe next year… Estes Park is 200 miles closer to Iowa City than it is to San Antonio and I’ve never been to Colorado at all.
Cute pictures! 😉
Oooh have fun! I love Colorado. 🙂
Great seeing your pictures from college! I hope all stays well with the kitties so you can go on your Estes trip. A wool market sounds like a lot of fun – I downloaded their workshop booklet pdf and wow – a lot of weaving classes too!
Great photos! Sounds like you had and are planning wonderful trips.
Time to teach May some deep breathing!
They already know… they can smell the guilt. Sorry i won’t be able to make it to Estes… have a great time, and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. Also, my knitting girls have a standby place for dinner afterwards… that has yummy sweet potato fries. Let me know if you’re interested
Looks like a fun trip!
Getting out of town sounds like perfection…did I just say perfection?
There will be no Estes for me – but there will be a little trip to SHS&W this weekend. It had better not rain on my kettle corn!
I’m so sorry about the room! It will be wonderful to meet you and hang out anyway!!
Cute “vintage” photos there Chris (tee hee). I wish I could be in Estes for EPWM. My parents offer to go for me every year but it’s just not the same. sniff sniff. I lived and worked in Boulder from 73-79, back when it was still filled with burned out left over hippies. Oh those were the days.
How exciting! When you are in Denver, you have to let me take you out for lunch!
Great, now another festival I have to miss! I really tried to guilt trip my DH into letting me go to MDSW but to no avail. Maybe next year. I hope you have a great time!
Squee! Oh yay! Oh, I can’t wait to meet you in meatspace!
Hey there,
So Jealous, I was married in estes Park…
You must go to the soup sandwich buffet at baldpate Inn…
You will be so full and leave room for pie!
Its quirky and wonderful…

oh, it’s been ages since I’ve been to Colorado. I think we went to Estes Park – I think that was the place I thought was cool cuz they’d stop all the traffic at times and you could cross the streets diagonally. yeah, I’m easily impressed. 😉 (that was way before I was a knitter – ’97 or ’98, I think.) come to think of it, that was probably in June. I forget what was going on while we were there…
do you need a catsitter? I’d invite the kitties to my house, but I don’t think Kashka would go for that… she’d probably lure them into the wall and then resume regular kitty mischief.
I must say, I love your 90’s hair pouf! 😉 And a few days of fiber and friends sounds fantastic! On second thought…Estes Park isn’t that far from me, maybe I’ll go!
I may be there–I’ll have to see how the finances are at that point. If I go, it will be with my kiddos again.
Hey, dudes. You guys can come out to Washington while your mom is away. We have plenty of room here, and lots of mice to catch. When our people go away, they have a neighbor girl come visit us. She used to play with us, but now that she’s older, she just wants to watch MTV and smooch with her boyfriend.
Oops, She’s coming back now, must get off the computer.
I won’t be going, much though I’d like to. I’ll be in tech/heck/hell week for The Music Man in June. So no vacations for me until after. (But boy, will I need one after!) 🙂
Have fun, and good luck!
Gee, that sounds like heaven! Have a great time, and put up a fish tank screen saver for the cats. 😀
Estes sounds like a great trip 🙂 If it is any consolation, all five cats have been giving us evil stares since we came back.
Hahaha…I went to Estes Park in 1980, I was 10, I had so much fun. It was August, we got into a snowstorm. !!!
I’m going! And I’m staying with Imbrium, so she’s going too.
I worked in Estes for many a summer, since it was just up the Big Thompson Canyon from where I lived. Here’s a stat for you – made it from the Kmart in Loveland to the McDonald’s in Estes one day in 14 minutes when the driver came by VERY late to pick me up for work. That was a fun drive that day.
If I ever go back there to visit (my mom lives in Ft Collins and my father in Loveland) around the time of this festival, I would love to go.
And I think May looks like she’s doing quite well in training. 😀
That is one serious copper fermenting tub? Looks like a cool trip! I wish I could go to Colorado, but I will be stuck doing homework.
Crap! I won’t be in the Denver area until the beginning of August!
I wish I were! It sounds like it will be a fun trip.
May is definitely looks like a Cheshire Cat in training. Don’t let the cats read the blog!
