In which I finally post a clear picture of the lacy tank dress

Nicole is celebrating her blogiversary and a comment milestone. Leave her a comment by May 6 with a link to your first blog post and you could win some really amazing prizes. If you don’t have a blog, you can leave a comment with a link to the first blog you remember reading.

KnitNZu is having a contest – by April 29, guess what sort of critter is living on her kitchen table and you could win something from her stash.

Ta-da! The lacy tank dress, mostly dry.

Pattern: Lacy tank dress from Knitting for Babies, modified by knitting in the round to the armholes and by picking up and knitting a round on the hem, then binding off in purl (hopefully to help control the curl). If I knit this again, I will probably knit a few rounds of garter stitch on the hem to control the curl a bit better, but I didn’t have enough yarn this time. This took me 10 days to knit and finish.
Yarn: Five skeins of SWTC A-MAIZ-ing (100% corn fiber, machine wash and dry) in Imperial Purple. This yarn is a knit tube type ribbon yarn. I thought it had good stitch definition and a lot more give than cotton.

I don’t think Mayhem is too emotionally scarred by wearing the dress, as she certainly made herself comfortable while it was blocking (it’s inside out in the next two pictures).

“Pssst. Hey, big kitty, this is that dress Mom made us wear. I’m showing it who’s boss now!” -Mayhem

“Um, May? Like the dress really cares.” -Chaos

  1. Little sisters (or brothers), huh Chaos?!

That is a lovely little dress, and the stitch definition is really nice. How was it weaving in the ends though?

  2. Beautiful dress and, really, May looked lovely — it really brought out the color in her eyes.

You’re in for a dandy weekend, methinks. I hope you’re able to enjoy it!!

  3. What a darling dress and the color is fantastic!
Kitties are so funny! I love the black of their fur against that purple dress (I know, I know, your favorite color combination!)
    (((hugs)))

  4. that dress is wonderful! missed the earlier post with May – but she seems to have it all under control now (despite the modeling episode that she won’t mention again!) Cats are so great!

  5. The dress is beautiful! Well done, Chris! And every little (and often big) girl I have met loves purple.

I fear, May, that Chaos is right. The dress does not seem concerned that you are the “boss.”

  6. the little dress came out great…

your two fur children are too funny! I have you seen Yarn-A-G0-Gos blog? she just got two black kittens that are way cute also…

I ahve notice lately funny picks being posted on the blogs of other yarn addicts…..all of tyou should put together a book called “Kitties whose humans knit too much!” LOL it would be a hoot!

  7. The purple is great! May and Chaos look soooo pretty with their black fur against the purple. Perhaps you should knit them matching purple dresses of their very own to wear….at the same time. I KNOW they’d LOVE that! :p

  8. Good going. Now they think it’s theres. You’re never going to get it back. 😉

I love the dress btw. Didn’t know if I’d told you. How long did it take you to make?

  9. Great dress! Too bad the kitties don’t love it as much as the rest of us do — or maybe they DO love, but their way of showing it is to lie on it. When I read that the yarn was made of corn fiber I immediately wondered what would happen if you put it in the microwave — pop-yarn? Oh, I crack me up sometimes…

  10. Let us all know how it washes and dries and wears, because it really does sound like amazing maize yarn! I started something (some time ago, since ripped) in a cotton tube yarn, I liked the yarn very well. Thanks for the contest link! It was just a spur of the moment thing and a small ‘prize’, and I wasn’t sure I was going to broadcast it…but, hey, it’s more fun this way!
