Refinanced raglan

At last! The refined raglan is finished. I really like how this turned out – I’m wearing it right now!

I did make a few modifications to the pattern:

  • I knit the body and sleeves longer.
  • I changed the sleeves to be standard tapered sleeves, not bell sleeves. Bell sleeves drive me nuts. 🙂
  • I shortened the funnel neck. I look like a dork in a funnel neck – it only took me three tries to realize that and change the neck.
  • I added a few short rows to the upper back so that the front of the sweater wouldn’t give me that slightly strangled feeling. I should’ve added a few more short rows.
  • I used a three-needle bind-off to fasten down the neck instead of sewing it down later.

I can see myself adding some cables to the raglan shaping in future projects. Here’s a little cabley detail:

Chaos and May eagerly awaited blocking. (Please excuse the blurry shot.)

“I can just tell something’s going to happen!” -M
“Hopefully something good involving tuna.” -C

“Big kitty, I don’t know why you ran away when the iron came out! It isn’t very scary to me.” -M

“And see? With me here, Mom doesn’t even need the iron.” -M

  1. Poor Chaos and May – you know, you COULD have knit that sweater in white, or cream, or even a pastel… how are they supposed to shed all over something if they match it?

Cricket says I should report you for “negligent infliction of severe emotional kitty-distress.” Oh, and also that I should give her more Whisker-Lickins (not sure how that relates to Chaos and May, but I’m sure there’s a connection somewhere…)

I may have to make a refined raglan out of the cormo I didn’t just buy… definitely inspired… 😉

  2. Wow, it looks great!! Congrats! Hee hee, I had to laugh when I read your funnel neck comments – I’m the same way. I look like a total dork wearing them as well!

Atticus is TERRIFIED of the steam coming out of the iron!

  3. I am blocking Dale’s vest at the moment and my friend was over. She laughed when she saw the kitty foot prints across the front of the wet vest. What is it about blocking items that makes them irresistible to cats? LOL

  4. Beautiful!

Having a snow-white kitty as we do, I started getting a twitch under my eye as I saw your fur-babies on top of a black sweater. 😀

  5. Chris- Kitty body-heat blockers- you may need more than two.

I looked up the word “dork” in Urban Dictionary once- quite interesting. (It has to do with elephants).

  6. It’s really gorgeous and just in time for the snowy weather. I really wish I had the ability to just knit myself something when the mood struck. I would knit a big, stretchy outfit that would get me through the rest of this pregnancy :o)

  7. Love the kitties on the blocking board. “This will be a nice bed to lie on.” “Hope she puts some padding down so it’s more cushy.” “Why does she lie the sweater down flat? Doesn’t she know it’s more comfy in a heap where we can bury ourselves in it?!”

Hope you are having a good day!

  8. I bet it is cute on. Warm too. I like the modifications you listed, I always need to make things a bit longer then they are supposed to be.

Oy my dad is running through my brain right now trying to come out with a “how do you block a cat” joke. Sometimes I curse being raised by a punster. Too bad he doesn’t know a thing about knitting, I’d call him in Florida and ask him for help coming up with a good joke.

Loved the socks you posted in your previous posts, very colorful, almost makes me want to knit a pair of socks, almost.

  9. Oh I forgot, that’s a lot of snow! My sister has been without power in Iowa for several days, since the storm on Friday. They finally got it back today.

  10. Very pretty! You’ll have to model it.

I’m not a fan of bell sleeves either. They look nice on other people but end up in ketchup or something when I wear them.

  11. The sweater looks very nice. Wow! That kinda makes me want to knit, but again, as long as I live in TX, that is a lot of work for something I’d wear a whole two months.
