My Stashalong begins

Thanks, everyone for your kind words on my Falling Leaves socks!

To start my Stashalong, I’m going to knit… Jaywalkers. Hey, I feel kinda left out – I’ve seen so many gorgeous Jaywalkers that I want my very own pair.

I started out winding some well-aged yarn from my stash. With help, of course…

“What’s this nifty new toy on my favorite chair?”
“Is this edible? Hmm, let me just find out…”

After the help was dismissed to the bathroom for a few minutes, I ended up with two lovely balls of Lorna’s Laces Shepherd Sock in Black Purl. This yarn was purchased in 2001. Told you it was well-aged! 🙂

The really funny thing was me discovering that I have nearly the same shade in Koigu KPPPM (color P305) and in Koigu Kersti. Hopefully no one doubts my need to be in Stashalong. Anyway! I started my Black Purl Jaywalkers during a two-hour staff meeting this afternoon and made good progress, as assessed by Chaos:

“Tastes like… sheep. Mmmm…. sheep.”

  1. I’m going to go down in history as The Girl Who Doesn’t Knit But Who Knows Everything About Knitting thanks to your blog.

    The Jaywalkers look AWESOME!!

  2. Thanks, everyone – yup, I’m looking forward to those Jaywalkers. Of course, being me, I’m doing them toe up, so…

Mama_Tulip – Think how much fun you’ll be at parties! LOL.

  3. Mmm…Lorna’s Laces! I think Jaywalker socks knit with stash yarn is the perfect way to start 2006. Go you! 🙂

So, you’re in Minneapolis, hmm…? My friend and I were talking about meeting in Minneapolis for a long weekend… 😉

  4. Oh no! Elisa knows what city I live in! And she knows how much sock yarn I have. Folks, this is not good. If you don’t hear from for a few days, well…

Elisa – We have 27 yarn shops here in the Twin Cities Metropolitan Area. Tell me this isn’t paradise. 😉

  5. i have a pair of jaywalkers to finish … but the aran i’m working on is so yummy!

cricket wanted to point out that sitting ON the swift really puts a halt to the whole “winding yarn” thing. She and Chaos can conference call and ‘create a synergistic alliance.” 😉

  6. Y’know, I’m thinking if Chaos and/or Cricket had opposable thumbs, the world would be quite a bit different.

    Whew that they don’t!

  7. I am such a knitting island… I haven’t seen a single Jaywalker anywhere, and have no idea why they are so wonderful???

    Love the colorway!

  8. Mmmm. LL in black pearl. I have it in helen’s lace and shepard worsted, but not in sock! Must wait until April… and you must love your Chaos more than I love my Danger and Cosmo, b/c letting him eat the LL? Mine are barely allowed to LOOK at my helen’s lace!

  9. Great pics of Chaos — you can just see the gears turning (towards mischief) in his eyes ;o)

Also – I can definitely understand the need to quarantine him in the bathroom during large spinny things with string operating! **imagines the ‘Chaos’ that would otherwise ensue**

  10. The comment about “sheep”–I think it’s true. My Jamal won’t bother with yarn unless it’s wool or alpaca (or some other animal…). I think they maybe CAN smell the animal…is that weird of me to think??

I LOVE THAT YARN! It’s gonna make some purty Jaywalkers.

Oh yeah, Chaos is awesome. What a great cat. :o)

And 27 LYS’s is nuts. I thought Portland (OR) having 12 was crazy…wow. I’m stunned. Hmm…I have friends in Minneapolis…

  11. Have fun with your Jaywalkers–it’s a really fun pattern. I just love your cat–I’ll probably be gushing about him a lot on my Stashalong checks 🙂
