I can’t even think of a witty title today

Margene is having a contest. Guess when Salt Lake City will hit the normal temperature of 37F and if you guess the date (or closest to it), you could win a spiffy handknit washcloth, soap, and yarn.

Thanks to Jeanne for the heads up on a new TV series based on the Harry Dresden novels that I like so much. Guess I know what I’ll be watching on DVD next year (besides season six of 24, that is).

And thanks to all of you for your well wishes last week! I am feeling better, but if I was a superhero, I would be Phlegm Girl. Ick!

Reading Update
Notice how these have slowed down considerably since I started watching 24?! I did finish my third and fourth From the Stacks Winter Challenge books:
Like the Red Panda by Andrea Seigel. This was an ok book about honor student Stella’s last two weeks of high school. I’m not sure why this book didn’t engage me as much as Seigel’s later work, To Feel Stuff.
Lambs of God by Marele Day. I loved this book! It’s spiritual and mythic and religious and earthy and a fascinating yet fairly simple story. Plus, it has sheep! And spinning! And knitting!

Knitting Update
I finished the Jitterbug socks. I decided to tough out the pooling; the sock stopped pooling within an inch.

“Oh, look, socks on the floor again.” *yawn* -C
“Oh, goody, socks on the floor again!!” -M

May seems rather proprietary, doesn’t she?

“If it’s on the floor, it’s mine!” -M

“What do you mean, you want me to move?!! I’m sure everyone would rather look at me than at boring old socks.” -M

The sock on the left was the one I was fussing about. The other sock was knit from the opposite end of the ball, so I could maximize sock height and yarn use. Unfortunately, since I only had two 2.25mm needles, that meant I knit most of the final ribbing with both socks side by side on my needles. I hate that. Yeah, yeah, I know it leads to identical socks. I still hate it. 🙂

Here’s what the other sides look like.

  1. Those are great! I’m glad you stuck it out….and all was well. And I’m sure May wouldn’t be so possessive of the socks if you started making her MODEL them. I’m sure she’s not cuddling up to those bibs like that!

  2. They look great! How long did your legs end up being? I bought a couple of skeins of Jitterbug this weekend and they are pretty short yardage. Luckily, I have fairly small feet (9″) and like short legs on my socks.

  3. They turned out terrific—as for the pooling?? It’ll be in your shoe, and nobody will ever see it. In fact, you won’t see it either. Just tell yourself you did it on purpose 🙂

  4. Isis and May are plotting I know it. Or maybe Isis and Chaos. I just know she was at it again.

Love the socks though. 🙂 Even with the splotch … it’s character .. yeah, that’s it!

  5. I think May would really like her own pairs of socks. I love how she is spread out to keep her whole “conquest” under her control.

The socks look great! Do you like how the yarn feels? Have they been through the washer?

  6. The socks look great! Okay, Phlegm Girl, use your powers for good, not evil. You don’t want to get into a sticky situation with mad skillz like that.

  7. May does look QUITE proprietory over those socks! She’s covered them. Not very much pooling at all, when all knit and done.

Harry Dresden was great. It should be out on DVD by next winter.

    Glad you’re feeling better!

  8. Those socks look great. You know, some people intentionally make matched mis-matched socks…and you did it without any extra effort!

  9. Of course it was a compliment, I was just thinking you weren’t liking them so much because you were fussing about them…they really are great!

  10. Chris- Yes, hmmmm, ratio of cat real-estate to knitting is definitely getting larger.

Not that there’s anything wrong with that. They’re just happy it’s not a b*b!

  11. I’m glad you are feeling better, my kids were sick, I thought I was going to get it, but I lucked out!
I watched the Dresden files last night, was pretty good!

  12. I’m glad you’re feeling better. Being Phlegm Girl is no fun, although it could be an interesting way to catch the bad guy. 🙂

I like your socks! The pooling isn’t that bad and kind of gives it that Monet look.

  13. Oh – I think they look so nice, especially with black cat fur all over them (as most of my clothes always look!). 🙂
Would you mind sharing how tall you were able to make the cuffs?

  14. Great socks. I need to get busy on mine. 🙂 May sure is getting big. Good thing we got a picture without her kitty presence — although it always good to see her, too. 😉

Do you just have one book left on the challenge? That’s where I am right now.

  15. I like your socks–of course I like your yarn. Sneak a peek at my site at the end of the weekend and you’ll see a picture of my Jitterbug socks in Bright Charcoal.I liked the way your colors “pooled.” I’m just getting to the flat stockinette in mine so it was nice to get a preview !
