In which I capitulate and do the six weird things meme

Ok, although I tend not to do memes, I think I’ve hit critical mass on being tagged for the six weird things meme. First it was Anmiryam of Gromit Knits, then La, then Peeve. Um, I’m not sure I can think of six weird things that I haven’t already included in my 100 Things About Me list… I suppose, since I don’t really remember what’s on that list…

  1. I never thought of myself as being particularly into cars. Sure, I had my beloved purple Escort wagon, but that was mostly the perfect quirkiness of said vehicle. However, I’ve discovered a deep and abiding pleasure in driving the replacement for the traitorous Escort – my silver BMW 318ti (“ti” should stand for “tiny”!). This shakes me selfview a bit.
  2. I have to wear earplugs to sleep, even when it’s not noisy.
  3. I’m not sure exactly when I last turned on my tv, even to watch a movie. Um, April maybe??
  4. Smears and smudges and streaks on the inside of the glass in my car drives me crazy. Do you know how hard it is to keep that glass streak-free?!
  5. My Rainbow vacuum cleaner is the same one I used as a child! It’s wicked on cat hair, kitty litter, etc.
  6. When I go to bed, I have to start by lying on my left side for a while, then turning over to my right to fall asleep.

Whew! That was hard. Cat picture, anyone?

(muffled) “Got your foot, May! Ha! Now what’re you going to do?!” -C

  1. eeee gads….you would NOT be happy in my car! I still have the tape smudge on the window from the tape that the guy used to post the for sale sign on the window! (Uhh…like two years ago!)

  2. There is absolutely nothing weird about falling in love with driving a BMW. The Dadmobile is a 10 year old BMW 5something. Manual transmission. Gear changes as smoothly as moving a hot knife through butter. Heated seats. Ya baby…

  3. I’m the same way with the white noise. I have the fan on in my bedroom at night (pointing away from me during the winter, of course). I need the white noise to sleep. At hotels or when I’m away from home, I’ll use earplugs to “block out” the quiet.

    Weird…

  4. I’m totally with you there on #6, except I start on the right side and end up on my back. We’re opposites on the earplugs though…I have to have some ambient noise to fall asleep. I have a ticking clock in my room that helps soothe me to sleep. It drives most other sane people crazy, but the soft tick-tick-tick just reminds me that the world is alright and will keep ticking while I’m sleeping. Yeah, OK, I’m weird. 😉

  5. Dang, you still use the same vacuum since you were a kid?! That must be an AWESOME vacuum….especially with cats in the house! Cool meme, but I don’t think I’ll play…I’m weird enough as it is. I don’t need to examine myself and realize I’m actually weirder than I thought;)

  6. I start on my left side and then end up face planted into my pillow…but once the face planting happens I almost NEVER move until the alarm goes off. 🙂

I don’t wear earplugs, actually I have to listen to a book on my Nano to fall asleep quickly…I always need background noise.

  7. I wish I didn’t have the tv on all the time. I was very happy living without one, now it’s on all the time and I’m addicted to Turner Classic Movies and soccer games on the Fox Sports Channel.

  8. Ha! Apparently the left side-right side thing isn’t that uncommon – I do the same thing. That, and turning the pillow over and over and over, looking for the cool spot.

  9. My heart stopped a bit when I read you haven’t turned your TV on since April. I swear the television isn’t off for longer than about twelve hours in this house. *snort*

I wear earplugs to sleep too, but it’s because Dave snores like a bastard. 😉

  10. alhtough I don’t know if qualifies as being wierd, to have used the same vacuum since childhood. It is pretty neat. Must be a really well built vacuum.

  11. You haven’t turned on your TV since APRIL?! Wow girl. Get rid of it now before you start up again. I’d love to disconnect from mine. Hoop would have serious withdrawals.

  12. i can’t remember the last time i didn’t turn the tv on — maybe when i was in france in july

we had a rainbow vacuum when i was a kid. my parents took it with them to france and it finally died probably because it didn’t take too kindly to the transformer it had to be plugged into to deal with the 220 voltage

  13. I have to admit that I do like knitting to television, but I rarely ever turn it on during the day. It’s a nighttime indulgence–but I only watch things I WANT to watch, I almost never just turn it on and aimlessly flip looking for something “good.” If there’s nothing actually being broadcast, I put in a movie–that’s what they’re there for!

#6? I read on my left side until I’m ready to go to sleep. Turn of the light and start off on my right until I’m ALMOST asleep, and then I turn over onto my back. Go figure.

  14. You’re not weird for loving your BMW. They’re wonderful cars. I’m trying to decide whether I want another Seabring Convertible or to upgrade to a regular BMW (because I can’t yet afford the convertible model. :-(…)

  15. so you’re recommending the vacuum, eh? we’ll have to check into it–thanks for the link; i wonder if it woudl be to wet on teh laminate floors

my husband wears ear plugs, too–they bug me

the no TV thing is great, but, yes, weird–I have it on even when not watching it
