In the company of knitbloggers

Special thanks to Mouse for my newly modified sidebar avatar!

Scout’s launching a new sock (and more) club – read all about Scout’s Indie Swag Club, which is going to have a very limited number of members to start with. You can sign up Wednesday, September 13, 9 pm EST. Anyone want to take bets that all the memberships will be filled by 9:10 pm?!

Celtic Kelly is starting a Fall Equinox to Winter Solstice knitalong involving tweedy yarn – check it out!

Reading
Men and Other Mammals by Jim Keeble. Interesting twist on British chick lit – would you call it “lad lit”?! Not a life changing book, but I did read the whole thing at least. (Why, yes, I am utterly lukewarm on this book!)
Cue the Easter Bunny by Liz Evans. I think this is probably the most recent book about British PI Grace Evans. I much enjoyed this and wish the first book from the series would hurry up and get here!
Dating Dead Men and Dating Is Murder by Harley Jane Kozak. The only two books (so far) featuring LA greeting card writer Wollie Shelley. I am eagerly awaiting another book! Bless the serendipitous browse through the actual physical library – I usually come across some great stuff.

Ok, back to the Harlotation on Sunday in Eau Claire. We saw many more folks than I’m going to remember – so please forgive me and leave details in the comments! Vicki Knitorious (with Deb of Wound Too Tight here),

Jeanne of k3tog (really, she isn’t always so serious – trust me, and check out the cool striping yarn she dyed),

CursingMama and Mr Motorcycle (so brave to come along),

Beadslut (ohmigod, she has a decent picture of me!), KnittyMama and KnittyBaby, Catherine of Yogurt and Granola, Jess of Mikknit, kmkat,

Christy of Purling Away, Stephania of Moraie Knitting, Kelle of Knits and Giggles, and many, many more…

And now for something completely different, I thought I would try to illustrate the size difference between Chaos and Mayhem… Note that her collar hangs loosely on her neck… and that her tail is the same length as Chaos’ tail. Poor stubby-tailed Chaos!

  1. I love the aerial shot of the babies.
I hadn’t realised just how stubby Chaos tail is!
But it doesn’t detract from his overall splendour.

And after seeing May, I want a kitten, but,
No, I will be good, I already have two kitties
There’s no room in bed for another one!!

  2. Will you stop making me jealous? I’m so sad I missed Harlot.

But those cats–those are seriously cut cats. I’m cheering for May–don’t let that Chaos be the alpha cat, May!

  3. Love the crunching picture. See how Chaos’s head is inclined to her? He’s on the alert, ready to bat her in the head or steal her cookies at any second. She, knowing her tail is the most beautiful, worries about nothing.

  4. OMG, Chris, that’s one of the best pictures I’ve ever seen of myself! Quite a rare accomplishment — thank you!! ; )

Absolutely LOVE the picture of Chaos & Mayhem side-by-side. How nice that they can BE side-by-side — our young male was causing quite the ruckus at our house this morning!

  5. Chaos –

My human recently watched the movie “Austin Powers.” Get your human to bring it home, and pay careful attention to all scenes involving “mini-me.”

Are you thinking what I’m thinking?

  6. Nice comparison shots! It’s going to be really interesting to see what kind of shape May has when she is older! Two black kitties – so alike yet so different! Is she loving you up yet?

  7. Love the double kitty photo.. I’m glad they can at least be in the same room together. My cat is too anti-social for a kitten.. I’ve tried once in the past after my little black Shadow passed on.. but she wasn’t having ANY of that.

  8. I love the crunching picture! And the collars? I posted a picture a couple weeks ago of Chappy’s puppy-collar inside his current collar . . . he’s gotten so big . . .

  9. I’m so happy to see a picture of Vicki! And the kitty picture. Well, if they’re eating side by side then I would say things must be going very well.

  10. thanks for the pictures! I hope to meet Vicki someday soon, and hopefully many other bloggers……(fingers crossed)

The picture of Chaos and Mayhem eating is too precious! They must be getting along better, or at least during mealtimes!

  11. i think it’s awesome you adopted another black kitty. Looks as if Chaos is getting used to his little sister!! How could he not? She’s SO cute!

  12. Yay, black kitties! Yay, large black kitty that appears to be adjusting admirably to the competition! Yay, Harlot! Yay, Yellow Dog Knitting for bringing the latter to us!

In the interest of honesty, perfection, and anal retentiveness, I need to correct the identifications for your last group photo above. Starting with the woman in the light blue sweatshirt and going clockwise round the table, we have Nancy, Colleen, and Mary, all blogless knitters, the first two of whom I introduced to the concept of La Harlot and pursuaded to come with me to hear her; my son Matthew (http://haslp.deviantart.com/), whom I coerced into driving us (4 hours of knitting for me!) by promising he could go shopping while we Harloted; and me.

btw, I happened to get a rather nice shot of you when I was photographing the women who were sitting next to me. Watch my blog ;-).

  13. OH OH OH!!! I go away for 4 days and you have a little MAYHEM on your blog! No advance warning or anything? well, okay there was that one teensy comment…
SHE’s ADORABLE. Oh Poor Chaos! I love her. She’s too cute, and he’s going to adapt. well. EVENTUALLY.
    (((hugs)))
    (and head scritches to C & M)

  14. Oh! the cuteness! The girls check in on you 3 every day now, and are relentless in asking for another kitten. The answer is still “no.”! It’s hard to hold out!

  15. Speaking of cat tails…my first cat Walter had a stubby tail. Hubby counted the vertebrae once, and Walter had 12 while our calico Gidget had 17! He would wag it like a dog because it wouldn’t flicker gracefully, and it wasn’t long enough to curl around his body. We’ll have to check on Tony’s…all we know it that it is long enough to wrap completely around his body!

  16. Harley Jane Kozak used to be an actress. Although she’s not the reason my Harley is so named, she IS the reason that her middle name is Harley. I’ll have to look for her books.

If May grows into that tail, she’s going to be able whup Chaos! 😉
