It came from 1946…

Stephania of Moraie Knits is giving away some unmatched knitting needles – Lantern Moon and Brittanies. Maybe with her help you can create a new full set of unbroken dpns or turn that lone needle back into a pair!

Thanks to everyone for the health wishes of yesterday! I’m still sick, but at lunchtime I’m going to pick up some of the wonderful Yogi Cold Season Tea – I had some at home, but it had expired in 2002… Ewww!

Remember the funky old knitting booklet I found at the thrift store last week? Turns out it’s from 1946. I thought I’d share a few pictures of the wondrous things that await inside. Why should I be the only one having nightmares?! 😉

First we have Loopy Doll. Personally, I think an entire horror movie franchise could be fashioned around Loopy Doll. I really hope no one ever made one of these for a child. You can so tell that Loopy Doll is Up To No Good.

I can’t decide if this is a promise… or a threat:

This baby seems to be leaning toward threat.

While this baby is obviously in hysterics that his parents could be so cruel.

And this girl seems to be getting her revenge be killing the family pet.

Probably best that Chaos was preoccupied during this photoshoot after that last shot, don’t you think?

“That Sparkly Orange Mouse can run, but it cannot hide from me!”

  1. Hi Chris- Hope you feel better- I love Yogi Tea- they give you a little Yoga Pose on the flap of the box.
That doll reminds me of Eddie Munster’s “Woof-Woof”, the werewolf he used to carry around- I think WoofWoof was nicer.

    Kitty Noogies to Chaos.

  2. That doll is truely scary – it looks like something that would attack you in your sleep. Horror movie franchise indeed! “Nightmare on Elm St 12- Freddy Vs. Loopy”
As for the little girl who is clearly trying to strangle her cat… Loopy made her do it. Muwahaha!! Move over Stephen King.

  3. I think that should be the next KAL. Loopy dolls. Just look at those shifty eyes. You know those things come to life at night, unloop all that excess yarn and throttle the unfortunate children who recieve them as gifts.

But what a wonderful punishment. “You’d better be good or you have to sleep with Loopy in your bed tonight!”

  4. Those pictures are killing me…I’m laughing too hard to come up with an intelligent comment. The kid with that shorts/suspenders/lederhosen getup on is just cracking me right up.

  5. definately bizarre photos of children and dolls. let me guess… that book was printed in the 50’s ? hmmmm scarey times.

Hope that you are feeling MUCH better soon.

  6. Hope you are feeling better. Those pictures, especially the Loopy Doll are scarey. Keep up the book reviews, I really enjoy reading them, and it also helps me choose books at the library.

  7. I’m not surprised that Chaos is ignoring you,
He knows that those baby shorts are only 2 bibs stitched together!
Hope you are feeling better soon, I’ve got the croaky throat but it is winter/spring here.

  8. I’m sorry to say that I think that Loopy Doll looks a little bit like Lambchop — but OMG, Lambchop is kind a cute and this is just so much worse. What’s with those “hands”?

  9. Erm, that bit with the girl strangling her cat. Next to it. Where it says “Treasures for a Woman’s Greatest Treasure.” Yeah. That’s not like a knitted chastity belt or anything creepy that you’re holding out on us. Yikes.

  10. Sorry to hear the bug still hasn’t left! It must be catchy (or that booklet is) because I’m fighting a chest cold now too :o(

That little girl is telling the cat ‘I’ll spare you from this horror – oh wait, the camera is on us. Drat.’ Really odd photography!

**get well wishes for all of us!**

  11. Hey there, we could have had a meet-up in Eau Claire but I am wimpint out. so many things going on that weekend and it is a 2 hour drive from Duluth. Maybe if it had been earlier in the evening?

But, while you are driving – think of me being punded on the soccer field.

Icarus is finished, just need pictures and blocking and more pictures.

  12. One word…disturbing. My 7 year old daughter was looking over my shoulder while I was reading your blog and she said…..”Mom, what’s that?” I told her it was a knitted sheep thing, so she wouldn’t have nightmares tonight.
    Her reply? “weird.”

  13. Man, that Loopy Doll looks scary… Come to think of it, all the pics from that book look pretty scary!

Hey, hope you’re feeling better 🙁 ! Yogi Tea rocks…

  14. Loopy is frighting on SO many levels. First, it is probibly made out of some awful colored bad acrylic yarn. Second, it has shifty eyes, like it’s planning something. Like violence against the person who created it.

  15. I sadly think that I remember seeing a doll like that at my grandma’s when I was a kid. It was brown with red hair. I never liked it then either.
