TGIF

Whew! It sure seems like this has been a busy week and I am definitely looking forward to a relaxing weekend of knitting (I’ll finally finish my purple Trekking socks!), reading (hopefully I’ll finish my second non-fiction book), cleaning, biking or walking, playing with the cat, catching up on blogs… Hmm, that sounds pretty busy, too, doesn’t it?!

Anyway. Crampy crabbiness is curbing my creativity this morning, so here are a few random bits. First, a cereal box that sends me into fits of giggles everytime I see it (click on the picture to see a larger version). Check out the list of allergens not contained in this cereal. I do recognize that they’ve simply reproduced the list of the eight most common allergens covered by new labelling laws – but, really, how many times have fish or shellfish in cereal been a concern for you?! Ewwwwww…

Curious what the Chaos Kitty is up to in the background? (Ignore the jungle pouch action there – he’s trim and muscley, but that darn jungle pouch has been there since he was born.)

“Clean toes are very important. I’m glad you recognize that, Mom, but if you try to paint my claws to match your toenails…….”

Last night I went to a St Paul Saints baseball game – I’m not a baseball fan, but it was one of those work “team building” events… I knit about 1/4″ of a new sock (more on that when there’s something to actually look at) and got a few cool sky pictures. Can anyone figure out what that unidentified flying object is in the first picture?? At first I thought it might be a helicopter or a bird, but now I’m wondering if it was a mosquito flying past my camera!

Have a great weekend, everyone!

  1. How is watching a baseball game team building, exactly. Blech.

Hehehehehe. Painted toenails. Hehehehehe. You could always put on colored SoftPaws on him….

  2. Baseball – awesome
Bug – I’ve never seen a bug captured that way before now
Nail polish – you would deverse everything he dished out
Pictures – feel free to post the purple gingerbread if you like
Package – going to the post office today – minor case of sick minor cramped my mailing style – that and I didn’t have an $1.00 stamps in the house…

  3. Poor you – crampy crabbiness is horrible.

I love the cereal box – perhaps some cereal brands secrete cod liver oil into their cereals!

  4. ROFLOL! Shellfish in cereal…not even for a pesca vegetarian!!!
Like those painted toes…got to get mine done again. And softpaws are cool! Tho’ perhaps not manly enough for Chaos?
    (((hugs)))

  5. perry has a pouch like that, too. oh, and you don’t have to paint their toenails. there are cat claaw covers you can glue on that come in all sorts of fashion colors! I’m sure chaos would love that!!!

  6. Must be the day for reading labels. The one on my new “Dry Idea unscented clear gel” gave me the giggles this morning. For external use only and the last ingredient on the inactive ingredients list is fragrance. So now I’m wondering what frangrance they use in unscented anti-perspirant?

  7. “Team Building” = Corporate, Unpaid, Atttendance Required, Organized “Fun”

Oh, how I miss working in the real world. Feel better soon.

  8. It’s aliens! They’re coming to get us! We’re all going to die! And you…you’ll be first! You caught them on camera! Have there been any scary, inhuman looking men in black suits hanging around? Have they threatened you, Chaos, your family?

Or, you know, it’s a bug. That could be, too.

Too much Wikipedia, I tell you….

  9. That reminds me of a story about the sister of a college friend of mine … she (the sister) went to go visit her grandmother for breakfast one morning.

Grandma offered muffins or bagels, and apologized for not having any cereal. Then she thought for a minute and said, “well, I do have some cereal. It was on sale at the grocery store this week, and I bought it because it had such a cute picture on the box. But I opened the box and it smelled kind of funny, so I didn’t eat it.”

So, Sis went to the cereal cabinet to see what kind of cereal it was. Turns out, Grandma bought a box of Meow Mix!

(Now that “cereal” might have had some fishy ingredients!)

  10. I also thought the “Enjoy life” on the box side was funny — here are all of these things you can’t/don’t eat — have a good life!!

Great sky pictures! And I’m sure that’s one fo the infamous Minnesota mosquitos there.

I feel the same about baseball — I enjoy the first 3 innings or so, especially with a beer and a hot dog, then I’m ready to leave!

  11. Looks like that buggy-bug is actually walking over your lense LOL. Very good shot hahaha.

I’m also awfully glad that there’s no fish or shellfish in your cereal 🙂 Would be a tad too weird for my taste hahahaha.

Have a great weekend, Cheers Eva

  12. It sounds like a lovely weekend to me, Chris! Busy, but not with things that can’t be tossed aside if something better happens along. And most of it are activities close to home which always feel less busy to me.

    Enjoy!

  13. Ha! I was just talking about a similar cereal box in the breakroom and we got into a whole discussion about my co-worker’s sister in law and how every time they go out to eat she has to rattle of her numerous food allergies to the waiter.
Oh and my Yogi has a jungle pouch too–I like to grab it and make fun of him.

  14. Would you have been worried had they not mentioned the fish products on the label??
Quick story: We happened across our favorite pizza joint, in Japan, of all places and were over the moon. On their menu was cuttlefish pizza. And I always thought cuttlefish was that thing you hang in a bird cage!! Go figure.

  15. Shellfish cereal? It sounds like an unexplored niche market.

Chaos is looking quite the fit kit! Men can carry those little tummies so nicely.

A weekend of knitting and reading sounds heavenly.

  16. Boo crampy crabbiness!

Heh, gotta love the way they label organic/health food. And they wonder why people think it’s dry and tasteless… Was it any good?

  17. I like Chaos’ juggly pouch. I had a black cat (named Eleanor) who also had one, and she wasn’t fat. Maybe it’s a black cat thing…….

You have a good weekend, too!

  18. Katie has had a jungle pouch since she was a kitten and she’s a slender cat otherwise. Yum, cinnamon shrimp crunch cereal, the breakfast of champion cats. I got a kick out of the “Enjoy Life” emblem. 🙂 I think painted toenails would be the last straw after the bibs.

  19. The thing in the sky is obviously the Flying Spaghetti Monster. Check out his Noodly Appendages flapping the wind.

  20. I never went to a Saints game, but I used to live not far from the stadium and occasionally had reason to drive past it – usually en route to Half Time Rec for Guinness & Irish music. Oh, the nostalgia. I’m getting all farklempt!

  21. I sympathize sith the crampy crabbyness. I’ve been crabby the last couple of days myself .. but having a really odd and annoyingly long cycle might have something to do with that.

  22. I won’t repeat comments that other people have left… *except* to tender my sympathies re the cramps (I definitely relate), and my hopes that you feel better soon.

And I LOVE that colorful house!

  23. Hope you had a relaxing weekend and that Chaos behaved himself nicely 😉

I wish our labels were as clear. Can’t remember seeing anything that said ‘no soy’. If only……The shellfish bit is weird but better safe than sorry I guess. Nothing would surprise me anymore. I always remember how shocked I was when checking the ingredients in a Muller yoghurt for DH – it had gelatine in it…..WHY? We don’t get that no more!

  24. I am so behind, it seems. But I LOVE your mosquito picture! 😉 I do, though, really. Not so much the mosquito really, but the beautiful backdrop!
    🙂
