Jeanne has already covered our dyeing adventures of last Saturday evening on her blog. I’ll just add that we probably need to work on diluting our dye stock quite a bit more – and not with wine! But dang, that pinot noir sure went down smooth…
The skein on the left is 345 yards of GEMS Merino fingering weight from several years ago. It started out cream-colored and was dyed with a mixture of violet/black and red/black. The two skeins on the right are each 225 yards of GEMS Merino sportweight (also from several years ago). They started out taupe and were dyed with a mixture of violet/black and green/black.
“What have we here, sitting in the middle of my domain?”
“Oh, let me get up here so I can really check it out.”
I came to visit from Juno’s blog, where she says you won her drawing! Congrats! I just had to comment on your kitty – he looks like he could be my Mookie’s twin! Very gorgeous cat (and yarns!)

Very nice job on the dyeing. I love seeing what other people put together for colors.
Those colors look great! You are getting to be a dye master!
You sure you didn’t dilute the dye with the pinot noir? Something tells me that’s what Chaos smells!
I love your dying experiments! Those are great color combos, but then I think you and I like the same colorways – like the purples Trekking yarn…your sock looks terrific! Chaos is so funny, like you didn’t know he was into the drying yarn! 😉
(((hugs)))
Chris,
Great job on the dyeing!
Nice job!
(And maybe Chaos thinks those skeins are cats and are wondering why they’re lying about so limply and not playing with him.)
pretty soon we’re going to see a chaos yarn shop!
Pretty! They’d look even better re-skeined. I always like how they look when they are like that.
Great job, that yarn looks fabulous!
Beautiful colors! I really see myself getting too into dying…
Whoooooooo – I love the blue burgandy skein!! So pretty.
i lurve your yarn… :}
hi chaos!
I like the colors in all three skeins, even if they are darker than you wanted.
Katie actually does walk on my drying thingy. Course she’s not as big as Chaos.
I’ve found that when the yarn is laid out right after dyeing, that it doesn’t look as good as it does after reskeining and twisting it up. Yours look great!
Nice dye job. Perhaps you should threaten to dye Chaos – that might keep him away form the yarn 🙂
Another great dye job 🙂 Your pictures of Chaos are making me miss my kittens!
The yarn looks fantastic! (So does Chaos, of course.) It’s always interesting to me how different yarn looks from the skein to the ball to the knitted object.
That is SO feline: I meant to do that!
I like it! It’s fantastic! 🙂
Hmmm….maybe you could dye *with* wine…literally…I wonder how that’d turn out?
Beautiful yarn – I love the dark, jewely (a real word?) colors!
Gorgeous colors.. I love how dark and rich they are.
Whoo there Choas that almost looks like dyed carpet and paws.
Love the fingering weight! I can’t wait to see what it looks like all knitted up.
They definitely look completely different when twisted up, so much more colorful.
Oh, how fun! I’m planning to get into dyeing more myself. You’ve given me some inspiration!
Such pretty yarn! The one on the left is a gorgeous combination – it really sings! Poor Chaos, that big of a dose of curiosity in that small of a body must be quite the thing to deal with! ;o)
I think it looks great either in the drying rack or twisted up. Chaos clearly knows quality when he sees it.
OooooooooOOOooooh! Sexy yarn! What’s it going to turn into?
FABULOUS!!!!!
Love the yarn you dyed!!!
That yarn looks lovely!! Very yummy. 🙂
That yarn is very yummy!
Purty yarn! : )
Those look great! There is nothing wrong with dark socks either!
Wow, those look really good!
Lovely new yarns! Too bad Chaos can’t stir the dye-pot for you to be more help!
OOOOh…..Awwww…….so very lovely. and well Chaos of course is always fun to look at.
Hey Chris- Do we have plans for this lovely yarn? Who cares? It looks gorgeous just lying around. Good thing Chaos is black, no dye residue would be seen.
I just love your cat. I wish mine weren’t so fond of our basement. Your dying experiment looks like it turned out beautifully! I love the colors you went with, it looks like Chaos did too!
The skeins do look really good twisted up! I bet they’ll look gorgeous knit up too. (And yes, they look perfectly lovely stretched out enticing Chaos to come play on the high wire. Dye rack. Whatever 😉
Love the yarn, the colors are great.
Ack! Don’t you realize I am on dial up here? I give up after the first few photos. Sure, you wait until I go on vacation to do full photo essays on everything. OK, maybe I will just have to forego swimming and sunning to see all of them. No problem.
wow, now that’s some gorgeous yarn!!! Purl says to say hi to Chaos…she’s been kicking back and enjoying the new playground, er, apartment. 🙂
I’m impressed! And obviously head yarn inspector, Chaos has given them the kitty quality seal of approval.
Those came out really great! The Louet stuff is nice to work with. Pricy, but nice.
Oooo, very nice! Chaos has great taste!
I can help, er, “store” that yarn if you don’t have room Chris. Gorgeous!!!!!!!!!! And Mr. Chaos reminds me of that poem by Alistair Reed. Posting it on my blog for you and the C-cat.
The yarn is absolutely gorgeous—very jewel toned. I think that if I dyed yarn, I would shoose a similar pallet.
