Yesterday, I wandered over to Uncle Edgar’s Mystery Bookstore to procure a signed copy of Thai Die for trek.
Here’s Monica Ferris signing trek’s very own copy.
Behind her, you can see part of two aisles and thus get a sense of how many new and used books are stuffed into Uncle Edgar’s and Uncle Hugo’s Science Fiction Bookstore. (The front half of the building is Uncle Hugo’s and the back half is Uncle Edgar’s.)
If you want your local independent booksellers to survive, please support them!
“Books. BORING. Sometimes tasty, sometimes fun to knock over Mom’s stacks of books, but otherwise…” -Mayhem
Wow! You sound just like a human, 2 year old 😉 I’ve lost count of how many books I’ve had to toss because they had chewed up corners.
Aw Mayhem, you’ve probably been reading the wrong books then!
I agree! Independant bookstores all the way!
How neat! pao and I would love to support that store more but it is a bit expensive to pop into 🙂
Looks great! I’ll definitely stop by Uncle Edgar’s while I’m in town over the holidays.
We have a great bookstore in town, that I make sure I go to when I need to buy books. I have to admit, I use the library for my own use, but when gifts are needed I’m at the local place! I agree that we need to support them as much as possible.
The life of a black kitty is so exciting they don’t need to read about adventures in a book!
Chris- I am a huge supporter of the independants- we used to have some amazing ones up here, but then &%*#ing Chapters moved in.
I think I need some mousie time.
Yay! I went to a new independent bookstore over the weekend myself.
But Dallas has no snowy streets, so you are much braver than I.
Not at all how I pictured Ms. Ferris. Have you ever been to the little bookstore in Excelsior? It’s quite cute!
I bet one of those kitties likes to bike book corners. I know mine does
Should I be honored or feel a little used because blog fodder was so thin on the ground this morning? ;o)
BTW – Thanks again!
We had 2 independents here: one very good one and one awful one, where they were rude (at every of multiple visits) and acted like they didn’t want to sell me a book–No asking questions!! Unfortunately, at the good one the owner retired and closed. I won’t shop at the other, although natives do just because it’s an independent. Pretty is as pretty does in my book.
No eating books, May!
Just like local yarn stores too!
Imagine if you couldn’t get needles on demand – Frightening!
Yay for indie bookstores. I haven’t been over these in a while, but I do like it.
Mayhem, hasn’t your mother taught you to read yet? Tsk.
Yay for LBS! And LYS. I’m lucky, I have several good ones of both to choose from. Hmmm. Perhaps I should support one today……
That picture of May is SO CUTE!!
It’s been a long time since I’ve seen an independent near my area.
Of course, luckily Minneapolis is not so far away…
(Pssst, Mayhem. Books can be fun if you open them up and use them as a scratching toy. But I never told you that. Kitty, who’s friends with Java da Pup.)
Ooooo used bookstore….they’re the best!
Oh I love used bookstores! Well I love new bookstores too, but used bookstores are my favorite.
Sounds like a fun combination book store. I think you’d really enjoy our local used bookstore too.
We have so few independents left in New York City…went into two yesterday, one all used books, and felt righteous till your post ’cause I didn’t buy anything. But did buy knit mag in my LYS and hope that counts.
That reminds me… my local book store called to let me know my books are waiting for me. Must go shop. (Oh darn… 😉 )
Definitely a great bookstore.
Catching up on blogs, and from reading your post I find out that an author I like had a new book out. Actually, I found about three books. I’ll be off to check them out at the library.
