Reports of my move were greatly premature…

I’ll just warn y’all straight out that I’m a bit crabby this morning. Things were going well with the blog move until their tech support mentioned that they couldn’t integrate my blogger data. Um, well, that’s a deal breaker, since I know there are places that can integrate my data. So I’m taking a deep breath, waiting for my refund, and doing better research this time. Thanks to everyone who’s given me tips!

I’m also PMSy. ‘Nuff said.

On the plus side, I’m meeting Renee at Bad Waitress in Minneapolis (26th & Nicollet) at 11:00 am today – it’ll be our bit for for Worldwide Public Knitting Day. Drop by if you’re in the neighborhood!

I’ve started the log cabin baby blanket from MDK and am enjoying it. Please excuse this blurry picture, as my camera batteries were dying… These are all the colors I’ll be using, although, since I’m just doing the 4th square of 10, I have a lot further to go! The edging will be in the tan.

I’ve also gone on a bit of a joining bender… I’m participating in Dave’s Bitchin’ Mittens KAL (after getting special dispensation so I don’t have to knit any thumbs – you’ll have to stay tuned to see how I manage that). Frarochvia talked me into signing up for Scout’s Knit Sock Kit Swap (signups are Sunday, June 11 8 am EST through Tuesday June 13 8 am EST), so I talked her into signing up for Kat with a K’s Summer Reading Program. My goal is 30 books for the summer, including two nonfiction.

Here are the books I’ve read so far in June:

Size 12 Is Not Fat by Meg Cabot, 368 pages. Total chick lit and a fast read, but it was fun and Meg Cabot had a great afterward about body image.

Summer Knight (Book 4 of the Dresden Files) by Jim Butcher, 371 pages. What’s not to like about a mystery series set in Chicago and featuring a wizard for hire? This installment detours into the land of Faerie.

The Hour Before Dawn and Two Other Stories from Newford by Charles de Lint, 114 pages. Newford stories – what else is there to say?

Anyone but You by Jennifer Crusie, 224 pages. Somewhat predictable chick lit, but that didn’t stop me from reading the whole thing in a single sitting.

Fare Play and Full Frontal Murder by Barbara Paul, 252 and 251 pages. These are from a series about NYPD lieutenant Marian Larch – quick reads, and the rest of the series is now on my to-read list.

The Road to Lisdoonvarna by Charles de Lint, 190 pages. A de Lint novel with no magic, set in Ottawa in the 1980s. Although the hardboiled detective novel is a bit of a departure for de Lint, it kept me engrossed.

Heart of the World by Linda Barnes, 321 pages. The latest of the Carlotta Carlyle mysteries, this takes Carlotta and her “little sister” Paolina to Colombia. Many twists and turns!

Hmm, I’m just realizing that my goal of 30 books isn’t going to be much of a stretch if I maintain this reading pace, is it?!

Here’s what Chaos looks like first thing every morning as I get his breakfast ready:

“Food food food food food food food food food.”

I feel a lot less crabby now. Thanks for listening/reading!

  1. First off…blogger sucks. It took about 4 minutes for the post box to pop up…grrr… I was able to transfer all of my blogger stuff over to typepad with much ease. I certainly do recommend it.

Next, I think I have information overload because I have 7 tabs open on firefox from your last post.

Hope your day continues to be better. Have fun with your public knitting. I will be taking out all of my yarn/needles/books and organizing. Yikes!

  2. kitty tongue! hee hee! Love sticky outy kitty tongue especially on sleek black cats!

    I’m pretty pmsy myself. Rar.

I like the reading program maybe I’ll join that and finally try to achieve knitting and reading at the same time. Which might be awkward because I usually read novels in the bathtub. That might be bad.

And I don’t think knitting and reading the computer screen counts, does it?

Have fun knitting in public! I didn’t find a ride so I don’t get to go 🙁

  3. I’m moving too! pao is organising it as an early birthday present for me so in a short while I’ll be a dot com!

Yep, you’re a bad influence (again) – I think I’m going to have to sign up for the sock kit and read-alongs.

I wish I could go out as I would have loved to have joined in with the knit in public day so I’ll just have to look at everyone’s photos.

  4. Blogger was frustrating this week, I pretty much gave up on trying to post comments. Commenting is still slow. Chaos looks a little more cheerful since he doesn’t have move right away. 🙂

The baby blanket is looking good. Nice colors.

  5. Bummer…it’s 11:15, hubby’s at work and I have a naughty three year old on “quiet time” right now. I’ve been wanting to try out the Bad Waitress too!

Your blanket looks great!!! I’ve been wanting to try one of them.

  6. Sorry about the blog/pms/crabbiness! Hope your weekend shapes up. I like your log cabin blanket -very pretty.
That book-along is tempting…thanks for mentioning it.

chaos! Is he climbing up the cabinet? And licking his lips?! Too funny!

  7. Awww.. Chaos looks adorable while waiting for his breakfast! All I get is tripped and screamed at by our furry child.. I wonder if she realizes that she won’t get food if I break my neck?
I think you have to take a number and get in line to bitch at Blogger this week.. I’d move but I wouldn’t be able to afford to knit!

  8. :o) Chaos really does have the look of anticipation there ;o) Willow woke me up 2 minutes before my alarm this morning with a loud ‘My Bowl Is Empty’ discussion.. in my ear no less.

Have a great day knitting in public! The log cabin blanket looks great! Maybe when we are in Memphis next weekend I can check out what that book is all about.

  9. Love your book list. You’ve given me some awesome books to check out.

I’m so sorry about the move but I know you’ll find something!

  10. Just an FYI – I host blogs. Like … oh, a few hundred of them. I run hosting for domains though, and I’m not sure what you are ultimately looking for. I have clients that use Blogger, MT, and WordPress, and WP can be installed with the click of a button. Blogger posts can be imported to any of them. If you have *any* questions – about anything blog related (I know people that work for TypePad and I have a WordPress.com account, which is free), or cat related or knitting related, or whatever – let me know. I’ve been around the block a lot when it comes to this blog thing. I’m happy to help with whatever I can. You can e-mail me directly at christine @ my domain.

  11. You are a reading machine! I really had high reading hopes for this summer, but just one week in I’m feeling like I’m not going to get much reading done. Heck, maybe in my 3 weeks of vacation I can read a book every day!
I’ve been wanting to read “size 12 is not fat” but it’s not in at the library yet (which I don’t understand, as it came out last year!). Glad to hear a good review!

  12. Yesterday was my crabby day!

Sorry about the blog move—I looked at that site, and I guess I’m just not ready to “pay” to play yet.

About the mittens…..I may jump in with my handspun, which was destined for mittens anyway. Thing is, the mittens are for someone who actually reads the blog, so I’m not sure how to go about posting progress (I guess if I only posted pics on the ‘along’ site?? Whatcha think?

  13. Wow – you’ve been busy! So many books already! I don’t get much chance to read, or knit for that matter – I have no idea what I do with my time… 😎 Hope the next try at moving goes well – I want to move to DH’s server but that requires actually doing something about it and currently I have too many To Dos and not enough actual Doing.

  14. So, your goal of 32 books is over the entire summer? Or the month of June? Either way, it looks like you’re doing great! You KNOW it always makes me happy to see somehone else reading!

  15. First, Hurray for summer reading!! I have no idea if I’ll get through my whole list for the summer reading challenge, but I’ll give it my best shot. I’ll have to check out the one you’re signed up for too.

Second, love your blanket and in cotton fleece no less(it’s one of my favorite yarns).

Third, if you count knitting at McDonald’s while the kiddos ate and played, then yes I did KIP today 😉

Hope your day turned out better!

  16. Love the blanket – hmm, I think that I might have to dig around in my files and locate that pattern.. It’s popping up all over, and I just love it (must be the former quilter inside !)
Thanks for the list of books – I frequent a local used bookstore that trades / resells paperbacks.. and I was a dull point with the old authors I’d read. Oh boy, new mystery writers to check out.
    thanks!

  17. Ooo, de Lint. He’s a good one, isn’t he? Sometimes I stay away from his stuff because it makes me *feel* so much. Cowardly I know. I’ve been tempted to re-read the Jack books lately.

  18. I love Barbara Paul’s books. Her stand alone’s are pretty good. A non magical de Lint? I’ll have to check it out. Bron mentioned Jim Butcher too [adds to list]

Can Chaos actually open that drawer? Hez has darn near figured out the panty door, but I think it’s too heavy for her.

  19. I love the log cabin blanket. What yarn are you using? Is it Cotton Fleece?
I’m enjoying seeing the different authors you are reading. Do you like a lot of mysteries? Especially police procedurals or PIs or both?

  20. Man I want that MDK book very badly. I am on a very long hold list at the library to have my looksie at it. I can’t wait to see the finished bebe blanket! Chris…you’re a joiner now! You? ;~)
