Trek that lace, baby

For Trek Along with Me, I’ll be knitting with Trekking 78, a lovely combination of purples and a hint of blue for Project Spectrum June.

“This is a particularly tasty shade of Trekking. I recommend it to all discerning kitties out there.”

I’m sort of hindered in the first Amazing Lace challenge, because unlike some, I’ve never seen the Amazing Race. Hey, I don’t get any tv stations. Cut me a break, will ya?So, last night the team met for the first time. On the left, we have Mim’s Adamas Shawl pattern, handily mounted on a magnetic board and stand (gadget geek alert!). In the front, we have a skein of Christine’s Fingerpaints laceweight yarn in Cabernet (with some blue, for Project Spectrum June!). On the right… we have, well, chaos.

“Cabernet? Are you sure? I’m thinking it’s actually a really good pinot noir.”

Greetings are exchanged among the team members.

*sniff sniff sniff*

Oh, dear, I’m afraid that not all team members have the same goal…

“Bwah-ha-ha!”

  1. Ye speak to the GeekinMe with that fabby magnetic board – m-u-s-t-h-a-v-e-n-o-w – oh hella can’t go get this it’s only 7a.m.

BTW – I’m totally impressed that you were dyeing yarn in last weekend’s heat wave – OMG – the cottonwood fluff and temps in Chicago strangled all activity outdoors for me…

  2. I love that Trekking colorway – I bought it for a friend when I was in NYC earlier this year. You could always start on the Trekking along a little later – like late June and work on the purple for July! *just a thought*

    Hi Chaos! *meow*

  3. PS. Just read Bonn Marie’s post about the cottonwoods? OMG! We have two huge ones in our back yard and it’s unreal!

  4. Wow, your magnetic board is way more polished looking than my cookie sheet + magnet picture frame pieces. Not that I’ve been using it much lately, lace kicks my ass. I will be, uh, lacing vicariously through all y’all instead!

  5. Ooooh – I have that Adamas pattern – for “someday”! I’ll be watching yours with LOTs of interest – post tips, for us lace challenged types.

I’ve done that 3-day walk – it’s a tuffy, but a great experience, great cause.

The magnetic board – great! I can’t find mine from my old cross stitch days…. I’ll have to get a new one- although I haven’t thought of the cookie sheet/fridge magnet option! Thanks “Not An Artist!”

  6. I don’t even think we get the amazing race over here 🙂
Hope you enjoy Mim’s pattern. I’m just finishing the second repeat of chart 2 in autumnal colours (knitpicks Shimmer)so far it has been a fairly simple knit – but then I don’t have Chaos putting his oar in 🙂

  7. Nice colors for the Trekking and the Fingerpaints yarns. Don’t feel bad. I’ve never seen the Amazing Race either. I just don’t watch that much TV.

(Putting magnetic board on my “to buy” list.)

  8. Mmm, that yarn will make a lovely shawl. Thanks for that last picture, it really made me smile. They’re putting Loki down at 12:30 today, he’s gotten worse and they can’t wait any longer. So please keep posting cute Chaos pictures, I’m going to need them.

  9. I love the Cabernet! That’s a gorgeous shade. I love the Trekking, too, but you knew that. 🙂

The magnetic board is excellent. I will have to look into that. I usually put my patterns in a page protector, and then they get sat on or pushed off the couch by the cats. Like Chaos, they’re scientists. Always proving that gravity works.

  10. I love the colors you chose for both your projects–gorgeous! I have never seen the Amazing Race either–I actually don’t watch any reality tv; it’s not my thing. Happy Trekking and I can’t wait to see how your lace turns out 🙂

  11. ROFL on the Bwah-ha-ha :o) Your yarn colours are beautiful – will you have any purple left for July? j/k ;o) The Adamas tempts me now that I’ve ventured into lace – but it still seems like such a big project! How much time do you have to ‘race your lace’?

  12. I’ve never seen the Amazing Race either but my daughter was filling me in a bit. Of course she thinks our version is silly, but whatever.
That shawl is on my “to knit” list, too.

  13. You’re better off than I would be, though I’ve seen The Amazing Race a couple times, I’ve never knit lace—which I think may be more important in this situation.

    Go Team Chaos!

  14. You’re definitely doing better than I am — It took me ages to even realize that “The Amazing Lace” referred to a TV show 🙂

  15. I have a magnetive board too and my inner geek loves it. I even have a little magentic strip that magnifies everything. ‘Cause I’m old and my eyesight is fading.

    Love the Trekking!

  16. I bought that shawl pattern and have been pacing in front of the mailbox waiting for it to come. Hope it fast and easy because after I finish mine I’m sure one of my daughters and my mom will want one, too.

  17. Dang it, I’m just gonna have to knit some lace this weekend because now almost everyone’s blog I read is doing lace. Oh the inhumanity of it all.

  18. I’m a total lace addict – did you know that already? Seems as if the C-man is a tad bit annoyed – possibly at being denied the pleasure of ever seeing “The Amazing Race”.

  19. Mmmm… that is lovely yarn. Dribble.. My Trekking hasn’t arrived from Germany yet! Bizarrely it is quicker to post a package from the US to the UK than it is for a package to get to the UK from Germany -?

  20. Don’t. Get. TV. Stations?

    [fans self]

Oh, the Adamas Shawl is so fun. It should look gorgeous in that burgundy. Merlot. Whatever.

Uh oh. Your team needs to get on the same page. Skein.

  21. I was lusting after a magnetic board with stand and magnifying strip just last night! And I was going to make a comment about old eyes, but Susan beat me to it – although my eyes are older than hers….

Oh, and I get lots of channels, and I watch a lot of TV, and I’ve never seen the Amazing Race, either.

  22. ROFLMAO!!!!! I LOVE Chaos! What a hoot…are you sure you’re going to win the Amazing Lace with Chaos on your team??? He should be your handicap, like all good golfers!!! lolololol
Ok. Adamas…”Plain Jane” is knitting that, too, you gals should compare notes. I LOVE your Trekking color! Wow. And either way – Cab or Pinot – That’s going to be a gorgeous shawl!
    Great 1st Challenge post!
    (((hugs)))

  23. That’s a nice choice of shawl there. I have a feeling that Miriam Felton is gonna be the next big designer or something! Pretty cool.

Hey, my second pair of socks ever was in that exact colorway! And it does knit up so nice, with some very subtle striping, and they continue to be my favorite pair really. Even more than the Koigu ones.

  24. What do you mean, you don’t get TV stations? What’s up with that? Though I’ve never seen the Amazing Race, either.
It looks like Chaos is playing for the other side. Cats, they’re fickle like that.
