Shepherd’s Harvest anyone?

Thanks for all the kind words about the baby bolero!

Although it’s nowhere near the scale of MDS&W or any of the big fiber festivals, this weekend we’re having our own area fiber festival, Shepherd’s Harvest (and Llama Magic). I’m going Saturday with Charlene and possibly Jeanne. I know Kerry’s going to be out there Saturday, Renee on Sunday, and Kate’s not sure when yet. Anyone else?!

I’m taking one class on Saturday morning, Dyeing Patterned Sock Yarn (there are still openings as of 7:30 am, May 11). I was mightily tempted by Beginning Needle Felting (you make a little felted copy of your pet – how cute would a tiny felted Chaos be?!), but it’s Sunday afternoon and I have family obligations. Other fun things include a rabbit agility demonstration, herding demonstrations, sheep to shawl competition (5 hours to go from fiber on the hoof to finished product), and a bunny to bonnet demonstration.

If anyone’s interested in getting together to chat and knit or spin, there’s a Spin In in Building B. I’ll be lurking around the Spin In area by 1:15 pm, knitting on either my Black Lagoon lace socks or my funkadelic Meilenweit Cotton socks (not yet featured here). I’ll have my sturdy grey Mountainsmith zip-top tote with me.

Hope to see you there!

  1. I’ll be at the New Hampshire Sheep & Wool festival on Saturday. In the rain, from all reports. I hope you have better weather!

  2. You know what.. I’d rather go to a smaller festival where there is room to look, talk and breathe. MS&W is a bit overwhelming.. to say the least. Have a great time!

  3. I will be there for the sheep to shawl event on Saturday, then taking the Intermediate Spinning class on Sunday. Probably shopping (or just looking) on both days. I can hardly wait!!!

  4. A lady at the shop needle felted a boxer on her purse. Chaos would be a breeze. I’m sure he’d just stand there, all still-like, posing just proper for you…

Please take lots of pictures of the bunnies jumping through the little hoops and running through the agility tubes. I’m sure it’s a hoot!

Have fun – maybe next year!

  5. It all sounds so great — and, *quirks eyebrow* rabbit agility hopping… wow! I’d personally love love to watch the sheep to shawl contest. I haven’t forgotten about the three Jacob sheep in the country — we just need the house first!

Have a wonderful time! Especially dyeing the yarn, you looked really into the warping at Jeanne’s blog :o) and your results have been beautiful!

  6. Wow, I wish I had local fiber festivals in my area! That sounds awesome. Enjoy the dyeing!

I am now trying to envision the rabbit agility demo. The mind boggles.

And mini-Chaos would probably have gone the way of SRM. 😉

  7. You won! You are the winner of the squares contest. Just let me know the phone # of your favorite LYS and I will get a gift cert ordered for you. I can have them mail it to you or you can pick it up.
    Congrats!

  8. I’ll be there Saturday with friends – all of us non-bloggers. We’re taking the afternoon learning to dye self-striping sock yarn class. Mine is the PURPLE backpack with too many keychains and a pony-beaded lizard thing….

  9. Five hours from sheep to shawl????

What is Chaos munching on there?

A needle felted Chaos would be cute on a bag. You don’t have enough bags, do you? 😉

  10. Hey Chris- a couple of ?’s I’m doing the shawl and loving it. So easy and cool. What finishing did you choose? Plain bottom or the botton like the start?? Just curious.
Also didn’t you say you had a toe up pattern you like on your side bar???? I don’t see it- is it just me?
    Thanks

  11. Okay, I’m just going to start living vicariously through you. Going to cool fiber fest, meeting fellow bloggers, winning contests…have a great weekend!

  12. Now that is some industrial-strength tote-bag/backpack/stash carter-arounder!

And the Shepherd’s Harvest sounds neat… (rabbit agility demos?) but Minnesota is abit too far to drive for the weekend…:( Have fun! And I want to see what you put in that tote from the vendors…there will be vendors of course?

  13. I convinced MFF to go Saturday, so I’ll be there. I’m not taking any classes, but I want to shop the market and see the spinning. I hope I can be imune to the temptation to start spinning. I’ve barely had time to knit this week, so I don’t think I need to add to my hobbies right now. I will come lurk at building B so I can finally meet you. I don’t know if I’ll have knitting with me, but I’ll be the one with a 56 year old guy in tow.

  14. I’ll be there after rehearsal on Saturday! I look forward to Shepherd’s Harvest every year – it’s so much fun!

  15. Ahh…jealous. LOVE the fibre festivals. Ached with envy over all the MDS&W posts. Tried to justify driving up to NH tomorrow when I SO need to study for my last exam and just can’t do it (the fact that it will be pouring makes me feel a teensy bit better). Looking forward to MA S&W…and then ME…and then there is the LONG wait until Rhinebeck! Have fun!!

  16. I will, of course, be there, dragging along my very tolerant fiance (actually, he likes this sort of thing). I wish I would’ve thought of taking classes or the sheep-to-shawl competition earlier than, oh, yesterday.

  17. I’m looking through the classes at your festival and really wishing I was there! Especially with the wool science and shepherding classes! Those would be really interesting for us!
