A very special request after the contest info…

Brenda’s giving away some lovely sock yarn in belated celebration of her blogiversary. To participate, simply leave her a comment – and if you would include condolences for Rip, her family’s kitty who just turned 20 and is nearing his end, it would be much appreciated.

My next-door neighbor Carol is just a bit older than I am. She’s the one who takes care of the kitties when I travel to the cabin or take longer journeys. Last week, she was diagnosed with non-Hodgkins lymphoma. Considering that they at first thought she had aggressive lung cancer, this is relatively good news. Anyway, Carol had a bone marrow biopsy yesterday and will probably start chemo in the next few days. I’m helping her out as much as I can (picking her up from appointments and such), but what I’d like to ask all of you for is your good thoughts and/or prayers for Carol as she prepares to start her treatment. I completely believe that all of the positive energy you sent my way last fall helped me get better after my surgery. I will pass along comments to Carol. Please, no scary stories, ok? This is all about positive, healing energy.

Many thanks to all of you.

“Even though I growl and hiss at you when you come over to take care of me when Mom’s gone, I think you’re pretty ok for someone who isn’t Mom, Carol, and I hope you get better quickly!” -Chaos

  1. Adding my healing thoughts for Carol. I do have a story, but it’s not scary – my mum fought lymphoma last year and is doing really well now. There’s lots of hope!

  2. You’re right Chaos, you just show your appreciation in a different way!

Good and healthy thoughts are being sent from everyone here in my little corner or Toronto!

    And hugs!

  3. Good thoughts coming to Carol. My neighbor’s husband was recently diagnosed with the same thing and they’ve heard nothing but good stories about recoveries. Here’s hoping Carol meets up only with the same good stories.

  4. Chris- Just a thought, but has she read “The Secret”- very inspiring about how the mind/body connection is alot stronger than previously thought and she may find it helpful.

Of course, all the best to her. And much kitty love too!

  5. My Uncle had a very similar diagnosis – and while the chemo was not good – he lived another 20 years after his recovery (he passed away this Summer at the age of 78.)

  6. I hope Carol gets well soon. I think (and it could have been just Lymphoma) the lead singer of Shudder to Think had that and he’s fine now, so I hope Carol is as lucky!

  7. I’m so sorry to hear that. We definitely will send thoughts and prayers.

If it is of any consolation, I have several (well 2) close acquaintenance with non-hodgkins lymphoma, and have done pretty well with the treatment. One has been dealing with it for 12 years now. The other about 4. Its not easy, but they are making great strides and research, especially at the University of Iowa on this type of cancer.

Take care, oh and tell her to drink beet juice, it helps build the blood up during chemo.

  8. Dear Chris,
I hope you won’t consider this a scary story for your neighbor. Here goes. My Michael’s mother Mary was born in 1917 which makes her 91 years old. About 18 months or two years ago she was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins and told she needn’t expect to last much longer. Well, guess what, her last check-up showed her cancer free and with no limits on life expectations except continued aging. So, it can be overcome even in an old, old, lady. Prayers abounding and hugs from all the kittehs, especially Isis and Buns. Purrs loudly from them also.
    Ann

  9. Carol,

Thoughts and prayers for a great response to treatment and remission will be sent your way! My dad has had non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma since 2000, and with regular treatments, he’s been responding really well and has a great quality of life. Hugs.

  10. Of *course* The Cat and I will send our best, fuzziest thoughts out for Carol – I firmly believe in the power of positive thoughts and healing energy. And in good neighbors!
