I always enjoy anachronisms, such as this very simple metal hitching post…
…and this slightly fancier wood and metal post…
…and especially this very fancy metal post!
“You better not be thinking about kitty hitching posts, Mom! The big kitty and I will not stand for that sort of shenanigan, not even if the posts have cool feather toys on them.” -Mayhem
Your tell her! There is no point being outside if you can’t chase lizards, birds, chipmunks and squirrels.
Chris- Tell Mayhem not to worry. As far as we know, very few people ride horses or cats in the city these days.
There is definitely “something” about an anachronism that just makes you stop and think and wonder, isn’t there?
Must go find my dictionary. Still a little out of it this morning….
What would be funny would be to see someone hitch their car up to it!
You must live in an old neighborhood. Downtown SLC still has a few stone hitching posts around.
i *love* things like that. That third one shaped like a hand is extraordinary!
those things all look like weiners or posts, same thing
I love weird things like that. Forgotten but still there.
Interesting. We probably have some of those around, too, but I never noticed.
but if you attach the cool feathers to the post, will the kitties even realize they’ve been “hitched”?
Its a wonder all those hitching posts are still around…although with the current gas prices maybe riding horses will come back in fashion. ThePrincess would be all for it thats for sure.
We have several hitching posts in our neighborhood and more around our town. They are so lovely and sometimes such an amazing juxtaposition to modern life.
Fun!
I used to horseback ride a lot, and in the small city where I live, I often think it would be a great way to get around. However, we don’t have any hitching posts.
I don’t think anyone sane thinks hitching a cat to a post is a good idea. The unpleasantness that would ensue!
hmmm, hitching posts. looks like the “hand” is a relatively new one – and causes me to wonder what sort of whatever someone might be hitchin’ to it.
Those are totally cool. What a great idea for a photo series. I really like the one with the fisted hand.
Pictures of poles in the ground. Now I have seen it all.
Kitty hitching posts… I like the idea.
There are such things as kitty hitching posts, but we refer to them as “scratching” posts. I see no difference. 😉
Kitty hitching posts – an idea whose time has come? Not according to Mayhem.
Hitching posts, eh? I don’t think of it as a horse drawn town but it must have been.
You should get one for Jeanne and her cats 🙂
I love the third one with the hand; it reminds me of those doorknockers with the hands. Maybe they used to come as a set? 🙂
Hope you are all doing well!
The problem is not in hitching the cat to the post. The problem is UNhitching them afterwards. Even if they let you get near them relatively unscathed, and if you managed to untangle them, think of the ‘presents’ they would leave around the house for you to stumble across… no thanks!
I like the hand hitching post. The wood hitching post might make a good kitty scratching post, but don’t tell Chaos and Mayhem.
