Tore right through In an Absent Dream and then had to go back and reread the first book because I didn’t remember who Lundy was. D’oh. Then zoomed through Come Tumbling Down, too. Whew!
Just Us: An American ConversationJust Us: An American Conversation by Claudia Rankine. Powerful. Moving. Insightful. Painful. Definitely rereading it. I watched her interview with Kerri Miller of Talking Volumes (Virtual) (MN Public Radio) and took a couple pages of notes during it.

Entertaining series set in LA about a necromancer who’s been away for 15 years but returns after his sister is murdered. Warning that the 4th and 5th books end on cliffhangers. GRRRRRR. Also, Fire Season hits pretty hard with the fires in California right now.
City of the LostCity of the Lost by Stephen Blackmoore. Sort of a prequel for the Eric Carter series, but set before Eric Carter returned to LA.

I’m taking several virtual  book arts classes in September and October that are on Thursday evenings, so do not be surprised if there’s no linkity or only the most minimal of linkity. On the plus side, by the end of October, I will only need 3.5 more “graduate” credits to completed my Advanced Book Arts Certificate through the Minnesota Center for Book Arts! 🙂

Tuesday Mooney Talks to GhostsTuesday Mooney Talks to Ghosts by Kate Racculia. Very good novel with elements of the supernatural. It reminded me a bit of The Westing Game.
The Library of Lost and FoundThe Library of Lost and Found by Phaedra Patrick. A mousy woman inadvertently begins a life changing journey as she tries to find out the story behind a mysterious book that appears to have been written by her grandmother, but with an impossible publication date.

It took me a while to get into this one, but then I zipped through the last couple of chapters and the “Aftermath”. I appreciated the insight into racism in Britain and the author’s in-depth dissection of white feminism (vs intersectional feminism).

Many parts of it are heartrending and enraging and just… I had to stop reading for a bit to go donate to Black Lives Matter and the NAACP Legal Defense Fund, if that helps you understand the power of this one.

It’s an autobiographical account of the author’s journey from racism to antiracism, with many asides setting historical context. It’s good, but it is not an easy read, in the somewhat tangled way books with an academic bent can have.
A Good Time for the Truth: Race in MinnesotaA Good Time for the Truth: Race in Minnesota ed Sun Yung Shin. Excellent, eminently readable collection of thoughtful, thought provoking essays.
Black History In Its Own WordsBlack History in Its Own Words by Ron Wimberly. Slim collection of illustrated quotes from Black history makers.

This covers from 1865 through 1979 and I found it very helpful for helping me understand more how things got to where they are. I wish it would’ve included a few more recent decades, tbh. Great illustrations!
