Linkity returns! Now with even weirder links than usual!

Oh, hello there! Hope everyone continues to be pandemic fine, at the very least?! I am now fully vaccinated and the two weeks have passed. I’ve been “celebrating” by having a few long-delayed routine medical appointments… And I got my hair cut! It was past my shoulder blades – now it skims my shoulders.

Reading Update
Not everything, but some of what I’ve been reading…
Across the Green Grass Fields (Wayward Children, #6)Across the Green Fields (Wayward Children #6) by Seanan McGuire. Not related to the school at all, but still good. I just wish these had a bit more closure.
The Secret Chapter (The Invisible Library, #6)The Secret Chapter and The Dark Archive (The Invisible Library, #7)The Dark Archive (The Invisible Library 6-7) by Genevieve Cogman. Pretty solid in 6 and then WTF at the ending of 7.
The Last Smile in Sunder CityThe Last Smile in Sunder City and Dead Man in a Ditch (The Fetch Phillips Archives, #2)Dead Man in a Ditch (The Fetch Phillips Archives 1-2) by Luke Elliot Arnold. Good but tragic – these are mysteries set in a world which has lost its magic, which really messed up creatures that relied on magic to live, such as vampires, unicorns, etc.

Harry has very short, sleek fur. Polly’s fur is a bit longer. They both love the windows!

The look of resignation on Mayhem’s face (plus the side-eye she’s giving Harry), compared to the FOCUS on Harry’s face…

Reading Update
The Mortal Word (The Invisible Library #5)The Mortal Word (The Invisible Library #5) by Genevieve Cogman. Another very good addition to this series. I devoured it in a single sitting.
Zero Sum GameZero Sum Game (Russell’s Attic #1) by SL Huang. Ambivalent about this one – I liked it well enough, but the rest of the series isn’t available because it’s being rereleased. By the time they’re all rereleased, I will have forgotten everything about this book.
A Gathering of Shadows (Shades of Magic #2)A Gathering of Magic (Shades of Magic #2) by VE Schwab. I gave up a few chapters in – it just wasn’t holding my interest for some reason.
The Iron Wyrm Affair (Bannon & Clare, #1)The Iron Wyrm Affair, The Red Plague Affair (Bannon & Clare, #2)The Red Plague Affair, The Ripper AffairThe Ripper Affair, and The Damnation Affair (Bannon & Clare, #1.5)The Damnation Affair (Bannon & Clare 1-3, 1.5) by Lilith Saintcrow. Very good magical Holmesian steampunk trilogy. Recommended. While The Damnation Affair is nominally set in the same universe, it’s on another continent and features completely different characters.
Beast of WonderBeast of Wonder by Lilith Saintcrow. I have no idea what happened in this one. Just HUH?!

Catghan activated!

The return of linkity!

I’m back! 🙂 My class (printing ephemera on the platen press) was great fun. I printed a LOT of stickers. A LOT.

Reading Update
Foolsgold: Making Something from Nothing and Freeing Your Creative Process by Susan G Wooldridge. This was good (it’s bristling with post-it flags), but not as good as Poemcrazy. It does tackle tough subjects, such loss, grieving, and feeling stuck.
The Sketchbook Project World Tour by Steven Peterman & Shane Zucker. A look at pages from Sketchbook Project sketchbooks from all over the world. It was interesting to see what people had done to their books, but also was such a fast read I’m really glad I got it from the library.
Dragonhaven by Robin McKinley. Very good first-person tale of 14-year old Jake, who lives on one of the world’s few dragon preserve parks, and who manages to accidentally and irrevocably change his life on his first solo trip into the park. (Dragons are originally from Australia, so think about the implications for dragon physiology. I’ll wait.)
The Invisible Library (The Invisible Library #1) by Genevieve Cogman. Very good urban fantasy about about a Librarian who gets assigned a very odd trainee on her next world walking mission. (This was recommended by Charles Stross in a post at tor.com about books vaguely similar to the Laundry Files.)
The Masked City (The Invisible Library #2) by Genevieve Cogman. The abruptness of the very close to being a cliffie but not quite ending annoyed me. Fortunately I had the next book checked out already.
The Burning Page (The Invisible Library #3) by Genevieve Cogman. Very good, very thrilling continuation of the series. Kept me up way too late on a work night.
The Lost Plot (The Invisible Library #4) by Genevieve Cogman. Another thriller! This actually felt as if it could be the end of the series. Or not. I think I’d be ok with it ending here.
