In which I verify the physical existence of three knitbloggers

Yesterday, Jeanne and I journeyed west from Minneapolis to the 318 Cafe in Excelsior, Minnesota. There we met up with knitbloggers Amy, Deb, and Lisa D for coffee, lunch, knitting, and lots of laughter. Deb’s putting together a local knitblogger networking event in April – stay tuned for more details.

If Excelsior sounds somehow familiar to you, it might be from the Betsy Devonshire mysteries by Monica Ferris. While Betsy’s store Crewel World is entirely fictional, Excelsior does have a really cool yarn store – Coldwater Collaborative. (I posted some pictures from Coldwater Collaborative about two months ago.) The cozy 318 Cafe is handily located across the street from Coldwater Collaborative. And Deb works at Coldwater, so Jeanne and I got to see the mystical and fabulous storage area “next door.” Let’s just say if you stop by the store and don’t see a color you want, you should definitely ask about it.

From left to right: Jeanne, me, Amy, Deb, and LisaD

And LisaD brought me these super cute little stitchmarkers. Thanks, LisaD – that was so sweet!

“You’re not getting off that easy – I know you had tuna for lunch while you were out. And did you think to bring home a kitty bag?! Hmph.”

  1. It looks like you have a great bunch to knit and eat with. I have yet to find other knitting bloggers who live close to me. Maybe when I get a few more bloggers to read my fledging knitting blog, I might stumble on to some who live close to me. You did not bring home even the smallest bit of a leftover tuna sandwich? Poor Chaos!

  2. lol ohh Chaos! He looks sooo posh in that pic, looks like he’s about to ask if anyone has any grey poupon! lol
Lucky you to have knitbloggers close by,sounds like alot of fun!

  3. psssst – chaos –

tuna is good, but you should try yogurt. any flavor is good, but the “thick and creamy vanilla” is the best. make the human feed you off of her spoon by grabbing her hand and pulling it towards you.

  4. Now that sounds like a fun day! I like those stitch markers. Oh, and thanks for the link to Cute Overload. It’s been a long time since I went there and I hadn’t seen the ferret picture.

  5. Oops! Wrong commetn box. I thought I was leaving a comment for Karen at Needles and Wool. Operator error.

How fun to be with knitters! How sad you left out poor Chaos. Look at him, not a happy camper!

  6. oh, but he does look disgruntled and quite put out in that picture, doesn’t he?
glad you had a good time with new knit bloggers… how far away is Excelsior from you?

  7. Chaos looks so sweet in that photo. And it looks like you had a nice Sunday outing!

re cricket’s comment above – a Utah gal who knits but doesn’t blog has an 18 year old kitty that is on a handful of meds. The cat seems to know when they are hidden in his food and will not go near the tainted food. The only way she can get her kitty to take his meds is to crush them up and mix them in strawberry banana Yoplait yogurt. No other yogurt brand or flavor will do. The things we do for our cats!

  8. Ooh! A knitblogger’s trip ;o) It looks like you had a great time! Too bad Chaos couldn’t come, he would have been spoiled badly I’m sure (if he was calm enough after the car ride)

    very cute stitch markers too

  9. Meeting up with knitbloggers sounds fun. Yarn stores sound more fun! I love those Betsy Devonshire mysteries.

Chaos looks seriously peeved at you. You didn’t come home trying to love him up with tuna on your breath, didya?

  10. chaos! my man!
i had tuna this weekend and i thought of you. it was expensive tuna too… which explains why i didn’t mail you the left overs. there weren’t any.
you can’t leave over $30 tuna.
    that’s sacrilage.

  11. Thanks for making the trip all the way out to Excelsior. Glad you liked the back room too. Carri got a big chuckle out of that. It was fun to finally meet face to face. Chaos m’boy – she ate it all! Every last bite. And it looked sooooo good. Solid, white, albacore…yummmmmmmm. Still firming up the details on the blogger get-together. Will keep you posted but very excited.

  12. Love those stitch markers. The top row looks like a combination of balls of yarn and Celtic knots. Pretty!

Chaos looks so much like my cat Fluster that I get such a kick out of looking at your photos. They seem to have a similar outlook on life, too.

  13. How awesome that you got to meet up with other knit bloggers! I love it when that happens! Sounds like you had a great time, too. Those kitty and yarn stitchmarkers are just the cutest. And could there BE a more photogenic cat than Chaos?! 😉 Take care, Chris! 🙂

  14. That’s a lovely group!

But Oooooo… that’s the most evil Chaos pic yet – what an expression!!! It reminds me of something out of one of my favorite animateds when I was a kid, “Gay Purr-ee”, did you ever see that? 😀

  15. Too cool! Isn’t Deb a riot! Whenever I go into Coldwater and Deb is there I know I’ll have a good time. Lisa & Amy are great too…did Lisa start talking about porn? She always ends up talking about sex:P tee heee!
