The Creative License: Giving Yourself Permission to Be the Artist You Truly Are by Danny Gregory. While I didn’t always agree with the author, it was a good, thought-provoking book on using drawing to bring more creativity to all aspects of your life. It definitely got me thinking and writing about some deeper things.
Creative Pilgrimage: An Exploration of Artful Gatherings and Discovery of Innovative Art Techniques by Jenny Doh. Ok but very repetitive overview of various instructors from mixed media art retreats. Not something I’ll bother rereading or referring to again.

I recently bought a magnet for my refrigerator and it perfectly sums up how Chaos greets visitors…

Reading Update
Amplified Art: Dynamic Techniques for High-Impact Pages by Kass Hall. I liked this one more than I expected to – it had some ideas and techniques that weren’t just variations on most of the other art journaling books. Not feeling inspired to go buy it, but I did take a lot of notes as I read.
An Illustrated Journey: Inspiration from the Private Art Journals of Traveling Artists, Illustrators and Designers by Danny Gregory. I enjoyed peeking into all the different ways people use art journals to document their travels, especially as I saw common themes emerge. And I’m a sucker for reading about the different supplies artists use, especially when they’re away from home.

An Illustrated Life: Drawing Inspiration from the Private Sketchbooks of Artists, Illustrators and Designers by Danny Gregory. Good look at the journals/sketchbooks of 50 different artistically minded people, including (in their own words) how long they’ve been keeping a journal, why they keep up the habit, and their preferred materials.

*sleepy glaring* Why are you laughing at me, Mom?! You are mean!!” -Mayhem

I was laughing at May’s little “catlick” from Chaos. 🙂

Linkity’s looking forward to a Thanksgiving break

Art Before Breakfast: A Zillion Ways To Be More Creative No Matter How Busy You Are by Danny Gregory. That I started this in early July and just finished it last week should tell you something – comfortable writing style, fun drawings, and yet I just wasn’t drawn in.
Journal Fodder 365: Daily Doses of Inspiration for the Art Addict by Eric M Scott and David R Modler. There’s a lot of information in this book; I think it might be best for someone just starting to art journal who is trying to figure out their own style and habits. What I liked about this book were some of the ideas for how to integrate an art journal into your life and not just work on it during “studio time” (which I have a tendency to do).
