Things that make me happy: Shaun the sheep

My favorite animated film of all time is A Close Shave, an Oscar-winning Wallace & Gromit short.

My favorite character in A Close Shave? Definitely Shaun the sheep. I have accumulated a little bit of Shaun paraphernalia (especially compared to some people!). Tiny Shaun sits on my phone at work.

I also have a stuffed Shaun.

“Tastes… sheepy. Mmmm… sheep.” -C

“Are you sure this is our best side, Mom?” -C&M

So when Amy posted some pictures from the March 2007 issue of Simply Knitting, I immediately thought of Shaun and had to go buy the magazine (available at Borders).

Someday I will actually knit myself a Shaun – I already have yarn for it! Check out Wendy’s knitted Shaun, which inspired me to track down the pattern on ebay.

  1. Hey! I resemble that remark! 😉

You know, I get at least one email every day from a child in Europe asking me where I got all my Shaun stuff.

Didja know there’s a Shaun cartoon available in some parts of the world? Check out http://www.shaunthesheep.com/

  2. That movie also has some of my favorite lines, like when Wallace says to Gromit, “They’ll track you down…like a dog!” Fortunately, my boss is a W&G fan and understands when I tell her that she was made for good but turned out evil.

  3. I have that same Shaun the sheep doll – I got it for Shawn the non-sheep!! Cricket hasn’t met him yet – I’m hoping we can keep it that way.

  4. Wow. Learn something new every day… I’ve never seen a Wallace and Gromit cartoon, never mind ever heard of Shaun. But that is one cyoooooot sheepie!

  5. I love Wallace and Gromit. The shorts reside on my iPod so I can get my fix whenever I need it.

And thanks for sending folks my way with book recommendations. I can’t wait to hit the library this weekend.

  6. Shaun is so cute. I’m going to check out the 15 books/ 15 decades, it sounds interesting. Thanks for the link.

  7. Cute sheep! Man, you must have the coolest desk at work… You so have to knit Shaun now!

If that were my guys, they’d be convinced it was a new kitten in the house.

  8. I saw a knitting book featuring Shaun and W&G. It was cute, but I haven’t bought it yet.

oh, hey. the link to Wendy’s email isn’t working right.

  9. should i not admit that i’ve not seen any w&g film? but shaun is awful cute… chaos and maymay look a teeny tiny bit concerned.

  10. I’m now craving some Wenslydale. (And with the storm a’comin’ tonight, a nice Lancashite Hot Pot would be lovely.)

  11. OMG I LOVE Wallace & Gromit. Morgan does too. I love the yarn shop woman in this one but our fave is The Wrong Trousers. LOL They’re just too dang cute. 🙂

  12. Chris- I LOVE Shaun. I have a little figurine of him sitting in a chair knitting. I wish I had bought the one of Wallace and Wendolene picking up balls of yarn.

    “What’s wrong with Wensleydale”?

  13. Oh, I love Wallace and Gromit! A Close Shave is definitely my favorite (how can you not love it, it has wool everywhere!) 🙂 I really enjoyed the full length movie too.

  14. that is my favorite short movie of all time! i always thought his name was “Shorn” (like shorn sheep, yah?) but it’s probably the accent that threw me off.

  15. My dear hubby and son have long tried to convince me that this character’s name is “Shorn”. BAH! I’ve told them. I will tell them again BAH! (oops…I just glanced above, I guess some other folks also did, I’m not saying BAH! to them!). “Tuesday Grommit” is a saying around here. They are wonderful movies!

  16. Nick Park is akin to genius in my book. We have as many Wallace and Gromit dvd’s as one can have, and the Creature Comforts DVDs. We justl ove them and Shuan is one handsome sheep. I’ve bid on that pattern many time, I always lose, hmm, wonder if I lost to you once. 🙂

I think Chaos and May would look good dressed up as sheep, they already have the black faces and paws.

  17. I have a stuffed Shaun also – I got him on eBay especially because when you squeeze his foot he Baaaahhhhs at you (in a really hysterical way, actually, lol). I should post a sound clip!

  18. Do you have the spin-off series called (surprise) “Shaun the Sheep”? It started here on children’s tv (one of the BBC channels) a couple of weeks ago – Adam now knows better than to watch it without letting me know it’s on…

  19. Have you seen “The Curse of the Were-Rabbit” yet? I think I enjoyed the movie more than Munchkin did.. though he does love W&G cartoons.

  20. I love Shaun! I always thought it was clever that his name sounds like “shorn” if pronounced the “proper” Queen’s English way.

  21. I love Wallace & Gromit. I wanted to get a Shaun tattoo when I did mine, but the guy talked me out of it. Maybe next time.
