Presenting… the Clown Vomit Socks

Does this remind you of anyone?! How about this?

I know, I know, you’ve all been waiting patiently. The yarn is Socks That Rock colorway Fire on the Mountain, which is absolutely stunning in the skein. I’m still kicking myself that I didn’t take a picture of the yarn before I wound it into a ball. The pattern is Charade. I tried something else first, but can’t remember what it was. I’m knitting each sock from the opposite end of the ball.

“Mmmm… More Socks That Rock yarn! I really loved that tasty Lagoon yarn.” -Mayhem

“Nom nom nom nom.” -Mayhem

As you can see, I was under siege whilst trying to take these pictures, so please excuse this blurry picture of the first heel – the only place that I really like what the colors are doing. That heel redeemed these socks for me. Now I’m trying not to flinch at the unholy mixing of mango and olive that happened across the gusset of this sock and across the sole of the other.

  1. That’s so odd… I made socks with Fire on the Mountain and they were so not clown vomit, they are bright though! I guess how you knit the sock (stitch pattern/count etc) really can make a difference in final product colorwise…

  2. I agree. Loved Fire on the Mountain in the skein. LOVED IT. Not so much as socks. Actually, I love all the STR colors in the skein, but I have yet to have it “click” for me in sock form…I’ve given up on it.

  3. Oh, it’s not clownish or vomity! I kind of like them, I have a pair somewhat similar…

Heh, yup. I saw the catnip Lolcat and thought of you…

  4. There is something wrong with olive and mango next to each other? I think not! Blogless Kim has been spinning Blue Moon’s Fire on the Mountain roving. I’ll make sure she see’s your socks.

  5. I kinda like them….all those crazy colors mixing it up. Of course I will admit that I would never wear them outside the house…because I would never want to draw that much attention to myself; I’m weird that way.

  6. I LOVE the second cat….!
And the clown vomit socks? Well…The heel is gorgeous!

May. Yarn is NOT for nom-ing. NOT. (I can imagine how busy you keep your mom when she’s trying to knit!)
    (((hugs)))

  7. Wow. Those are… quite some socks. I think I can see where the name comes from. It would almost be tempting to let May nom them a bit…

  8. I like colorful. For socks, that is. I’m not sure I’d want a sweater in those colors…but socks, sure!

I’m currently making a pair of Charade socks, too, but mine are out of Numma Numma’s yarn in the Brunch for Beth colorway. (There’s a picture a couple of days back on my blog.)

  9. That is probably one of my favorite STR colors because of the tie-dye colors and the name.. but I absolutely hate the way it looks knit up. I always wonder if it would be weird and wrong to buy a skein and put it in a shadow box so that I can just hang it on the wall and admire it.

  10. 1. Clown Vomit Socks! That made me laugh out loud!

    2. I think they look nice, I have to say.

    3. Only reading blogs and such during my lunch hour sucks – I hope our computer gets fixed soon!

  11. I bought a skein of the STR Rainbow Pride heavyweight for next winter’s preemie caps. You are making me nervous about how they will look. Happily, the preemies will not care.

  12. I have no really strong objections to olive and mango together, as long as they’re colors and not food, but those socks are a bit too busy for my taste.

  13. I love the second cat. That could be at my house.

You know with red toes and a little ruffle around the ankle, they really could be clown vomit socks. Nice heel though.

  14. I loved the Bridezilla Cat. Wait, I might have gotten lost in Ihaz land.

Those are cute socks! Mango and olive are a lovely combination.

    Flamingos and black cats, eh?

  15. I’ve been waiting for the pictures of these infamous clown vomit socks. Yikes!!! I once had a student in a class who referred to her homework as being ‘easter bunny vomit’ because she employed a large collection of colored pens. It was weird grading physics homework done in pink!

  16. Well, you just have to wear them with an equally loud Grateful Dead t-shirt and Birks, and people will think the unholiness is intentional.

Seriously, anything that loud has to go with a dark Birk, nothing else. Except for maybe peeking out of a Doc Marten.

Two Doc Martens, that is. You do have two feet, after all.

  17. Perhaps you can gift them to an obnoxiously cheerful individual? That’s what I’m doing with the socks made soft nectarine yarn that turned out to be ORANGE!!!! I’m giving them to my sadistic, emotionally abusive sister.
