I already did one end-of-season ceremonial sock washing in early May, but I’ve worn many pairs of wool socks since then. Maybe I’ll have better luck now that we’re a third of the way through June… Of course, the high today is only supposed to be 71°F, with a flood watch through Thursday afternoon. Hmm.
“I play a very important role in the sock washing process.” -Mayhem
“What do you mean, in my dreams, big kitty?!?” -Mayhem
“Mom, lying on the wet socks before you can hang them up is important, right? Right?!!” -Mayhem
heh heh – if you put them in the sink I bet she’d lay on them!
I wouldn’t put them away just yet… if the screwy weather out here ends up heading east, you’re in for a cold spell.
Dumb, kitty! Didn’t your mum ever tell you that you’ll catch a cold if you lay on wet clothes?
Nope. I wear wool socks in the summer (mostly I wear no socks, but when I do it is wool, usually the shortie ones). Maybe Mayhem is adding a bit of fiber to those little worn spots?
I finally stopped washing ‘for the last time’ and now I’m out of socks and in need of a pair…today! It’s freaking freezing!
Don’t worry, May. Of course you’re important.
Oh May, what’s the appeal of lying on wet wool??! And besides, you’re hiding some really nifty colourways there.
Sheesh, where’s the “envy” button? I covet your cool weather . . . we’re already into the high 90s here and no end in sight until October at least! I put my wool socks away back in, oh, March?
(yes, this might make one wonder why the heck I even have wool socks . . . one who is not a knitter, anyway! 🙂
Of course it’s important, May; how else could you get your hair to really stick to the socks?!
I never plan to do a “last wash” for summer; that’s sure to guarantee a cold spell!
i sure hope so! although i have to keep them out for hiking/backpacking i did have to pull out a couple of sweaters this last week. maybe??
Chris- A little cat-pressing never hurts.
What a great photo series!!
I’d *kill* for 70 degrees right now.
And, yes, kitties on the wet wool is an integral step in the washing process. Just ask Pugsley.
Hehe, May is using her body heat to help the drying process.
I wouldn’t count on that 71 degrees today either!! Does May rent herself out for sock washings?
71 sounds SO much better than 91. My wool socks are just WIPs, not to be worn yet.
(sigh)
I know you’d like some summer, I’d send it to you if I could…could I have fall?
Mayhem, your eyes are soooooooo expressive and your mom is so good at interpreting them for us!
(((hugs)))
Believe it or not, but I actually wear my wool socks year ’round. It’s like a men’s wool suit: warm in the winter, cool in the summer. And, really, cotton socks just don’t look as colorful.
I say to leave ’em out.
i want to donkey punch the sun it’s been so hot here
Cold? What’s that? *puzzled frown*
She’s so cute! Since they hate to be wet, what IS it about wet wool?
You are very helpful, May. I bet mom gets the wash done in only twice the time when you help.
OF COURSE laying on the socks is important. It helps squeeze out any excess moisture to speed up the dry time. We’ll be lucky to hit 60 today, but the rest of the week is supposed to be sunny and hot! Finally!
I rarely put clothes away for the season anymore. I just don’t have the storage space. Besides, if you put away the wool socks, what will the kitties sleep on?
Kitties do so like to be helpful. Does May like to help change the sheets too?
I don’t know about you, but I’m wearing wool socks today.
Dude. I don’t care how cold it is, you have to put the woolies away. It’s just a rule.
Just look at those eyes! How can you resist them?!
May – your job is to accent the pretty colors with your striking shiny black coat.
aha! It’s YOUR fault the cool weather came back! I vote you don’t do any ceremonial sock washing just yet. That would tempt the fates.
I’m still working on hubby’s sweater (that was supposed to be done during winter) because I’m 99% certain he’ll get some wearing time in before August. Sheesh.
I would much rather have 70s than 90s. You do realize that if you put your wool socks away, you bring on a freaky cold snap.
Mayhem, someone needs to press those wet socks.
Judging by OUR temperatures, I’d say YES!
What is the appeal of laying on wet wool? May, May. But of course it is crucial to the cleaning process.
Sydney’s right. If you put them away…..let’s just say I picked up my wool cardigan and the temps went from the 70’s to the 100’s.
I sure hope that you reassured May that her job is immensly (can’t spell today) important to the washing and putting away of the wool socks.
May’s job is very important. She must infuse the socks with cat fur as you are always reminded of her grace and cuteness.
Rest assured May, your role in the sock washing in pivotal!
I thought I was done with the late spring ceremonial sock washing too but found two pair in the handwash hamper that i’d somehow missed! Handknit socks look so dramatic against your jet black fur Mayhem, keep up the good work.
I like the cool weather. Keep your socks handy!
