My convalescence continues to go very well. Last week, Jeanne chauffered me around several times – on Tuesday, we went to Uncle Hugo’s/Uncle Edgar’s and Dreamhaven. On Friday, we went out to Deb’s for lunch, a wee bit of dyeing, knitting, and conversation. On Saturday, I drove for the first time in 3.5 weeks! I probably could’ve driven sooner, but I figured that someone who couldn’t wear jeans comfortably maybe shouldn’t be behind the wheel of a car… 🙂 Yesterday, the Procrastinatrix came over and we spent a pleasant afternoon knitting and chatting.
I’ve also been blessed with great weather for walking – sunny days, with temps in the low 50s to mid-60s and blue, blue autumn skies. Yesterday, as I walked around my neighborhood, I saw a black cat who looked a lot like Mayhem, except she had one shocking white whisker and no locket. She didn’t have a collar and she barely made it across a busy street – eep! Hope she’s ok – it’s a very hard time of year to be a black kitty outside. I also wandered down Bryant Avenue and realized that two consecutive blocks will lose a total of eight elm trees today. I’ll be able to hear the saws and chippers running all day…
Check out this bloglines screenshot from a week or so ago. I had maybe 40 unread posts and hit refresh… and this is what I suddenly saw. (You definitely want to click on this one to embiggen it.) Eeeeeeep! I’ll give you all a moment to recover. (It might’ve taken me more than a moment to gather myself and take the screenshot…) I refreshed again, and it was back to the “real” 40. Oh, bloglines, you sure have your issues!
“I don’t care about your bloglines woes, Mom. I just can’t believe that there are kitties who live outside where the big scary trucks are driving by all the time! Eeep!” -Mayhem
Eeeep is right! Technology…pfffft…
I HATE seeing any cat outdoors at this time of year and in this weather. 🙁
Glad you’re doing so well 😉
I had a little walk myself yesterday….it was gloriously sunny and is today too. Though rather nippy!
What a shame about the elm trees.
Holy crap Chris- How do you keep up with Bloglines?
Toronto has lost most of the elms- I forget what they look like.
Yeah…we always used to keep our black cat, Goblin, inside around Halloween. She was too friendly to risk attempted catnapping.
Yikes, that’s a lot of reading to catch up on. (Are most of those in the “music” folder???)
Just out of curiosity, how many blogs are in your bloglines? I TRY to keep mine to around 100. Key word there is TRY…
Is it Bloglines doing it or the blog owner? I have a rule now where I unsubscribe anyone who feels I should read their last 100+ entries TWICE in the same hour/day!
Aren’t you glad you live indoors, Mayhem?
Holy moly! At least you aren’t in want of fresh reading material. Happy to hear that you’re recovering at a nice, steady pace. The “embiggen” definition page was interesting to say the least. Mayhem, what a wonderful kitty you are to worry about your less fortunate brethren. You deserve some tuna for such selfless thoughts.
Guess we know what YOU are doing today, eh?
Bloglines must’ve had a hiccup? Or, REALLY?
I remember the first culling of the Elms in Minneapolis – so sad. Our kids play Lacrosse in EP at a park called Staring Lake on Pioneer Trail (across from Flying Cloud Airport. The Powers That Be are widening Pioneer Trail next Summer and taking out two city blocks of fifty foot pine trees – and our Lacrosse field as well. The airport wouldn’t give up any of their parking lot for widening the road. 🙁
Mayhem really has that “blurry photo” thing down, doesn’t she? America’s Next Top Kitty Model.
How wonderful the weather cooperated and you’ve been able to get out and about.
I so hate seeing all those gorgeous old elms go.
I hate to hear about trees being taken down, too.
I just looked at the Dreamhaven site – wow! (And I love Harlan Ellison.)
Glad to hear that you’re feeling well enough to be up and around. It certainly has been a lovely fall so far.
Every once in a while I have the same thing happen with Bloglines – all of a sudden a bunch of blogs have “200” new posts. It’s so weird!
I think 3157 is the extension of the beast.
SO sad about the trees, soon your section of Bryant will look like a suburban street in the city.
I’m going to imagine that little city kitty had been “chipped” and comes equipped with Stealth mode. Anything else simply causes anxiety.
I think I would have a heart attack if my blog lines was that full! Good thing it dropped back to 40.
The elms are such a beautiful tree; it’s really too bad that no one was able to save them.
I hope the little black kitty outside finds shelter. I’m glad Mayhem realizes her good fortune to live indoors with you and Chaos!
You’ve been having so much fun while convelesing how will you ever go back to work?!?!
I agree with Mayhem – I can’t believe that there are kitties who live outside particularly in busy cities & suburbs. Sigh – if only I could adopt them all (wouldn’t the litter box cleaner get pissy!)
We have a couple of tuxedo barn cats (black with white bibs and paws) who don’t like this time of year at all – they hate being locked in at night! But it’s safer to be locked in than to be a black kitty out on Halloween.
I hope all your neighborhood black kitties are safe.
That happened to me too and I was completely undone. I thought my Bloglines list had exploded!
I’m glad that you are feeling better enough to drive. Keep convalescing!
Bloglines in the bane of blog existence!
I hope that kitty is ok! We’ve got 10 feral cats in and about our backyard – two are mostly black…
Gosh, I have 600 unread blog posts – I think I’ve given up!
Ever since I saw that screenshot I’ve opened my Bloglines with a certain amount of trepidation…
Now I’m afraid of bloglines. Just what I needed…another phobia.
I would have said WTF!!!! too. Glad you recoverng nicely
Weren’t you tempted to kidnap the Mayhem-alike? I would have been 😉
I wouldn’t be surprised if that was your actual bloglines feed number. 😉
Oh no! Be careful Mayhem Lookalike! I worry about my gray kitties this time of year.
A Big Fat Supernatural Wedding is in my TBR pile. One of these days….
Bloglines is getting pretty trippy lately, with those ginormous totals. One day, Bloglines even turned back the clock: it brought up NYT headlines and stories from 2005. Very eerie to see stuff about people who are no longer alive.
Eep indeed 😉 I’ll have to keep an eye on that! I keep meaning to go to Uncle Hugo’s someday! You two sound like you’re having fun 🙂
OMG, that was hilarious! Glad you’re feeling better!
Now that I have my own black kittie (also with locket) I was thinking about the Halloween badness some people do. Kitty doesn’t ever go outside, but the thought is scary.
The world is amazingly small. My husband’s uncle lives on Bryant Ave in Minneapolis.
I think if I had seen that many unread blog posts on my list I would have suspected that I was Rip Van Winkle of something… oh my.
glad that you are healing so well.
Yay for being able to drive again! I think if I saw that many unread messages, I would just have to mark them all read.
I hate seeing any cat out of doors full stop. Period.
I know in Toronto, the humane society doesn’t allow black kitties to be adopted out anytime near Hallowe’en. You can go and look, but can’t take one home until well into November. I don’t even want to think about what might have caused them to have to put that rule into effect.
I got frustrated with Bloglines, and have moved on over to Google Reader – I love that it doesn’t mark a post as read until I’ve actually scrolled down past it.
Can’t believe it’s been 4 weeks already! And I’m with Mayhem about outside kitties, especially in the city…
3157? psh!! You can do that easy. Just stop eating, knitting, reading books, sleeping and playing with your cats. See, no problem. 😉
I had so much fun! Tell Chaos and Mayhem I said thanks for letting me visit their home. 🙂
I’ve always had indoor/outdoor kitties when we’ve lived in a house, but I bring them in at night. However on Halloween, I keep them in all day and don’t let them out until Nov 1st.
