Lunching with Chaos (and Deb!)

We had sunshine on Saturday! It was lovely and warm, and I enjoyed a pleasant wander around my neighborhood. Alas, the clouds returned on Sunday.

Reading
Air by Geoff Ryman. This was an extremely well-written science fiction novel about the effects of new technology on traditional cultures.
Agatha Raisin and the Potted Gardener by M.C. Beaton. A gift from Mrs. Pao – it took me a while to sympathize with Agatha, but now I’m interested to see what happens in the next book.
Dragonswan, “Phantom Lover” (in Midnight Pleasures), Night Play, Dance with the Devil, Sins of the Night, Unleash the Night, Dark Side of the Moon, Fear the Darkness (free online short story), and The Dream-Hunter by Sherrilyn Kenyon. Dark Hunter novels – what can I say? Supernatural, trashy (oh, so very trashy) – fortunately, the writing and editing keep improving as the series goes on. Actually, it looks like The Dream-Hunter is the start of a new series.
Something Rotten: A Thursday Next Novel by Jasper Fforde. I’ve now reread all the Thursday Next novels and enjoyed them muchly.

Lunching
On Friday, Deb brought over salads and Caribou mochas (soy for me, of course) to kick off a pleasant afternoon of lunching, conversation, and knitting. Chaos joined us…

“Oh, man, that looks tasty, even if it isn’t tuna.” -Chaos

“See how cute I am? You know you want to feed me, no matter what Mom’s telling you!” -Chaos

“What I wouldn’t give for some thumbs about now…” -Chaos

  1. Mmmmm, that does look yummy. And I’ve finally had a soy mocha – at a coffee shop up here – and it’s now my occasional treat!

(The PJ’s ROCK, by the way! Fit so comfy…)

  2. Haha, Chaos is so funny!

I read the early Agatha Raisin books… I know what you mean about sympathizing with her. I stopped reading them after the third one, I think. If you read them all, I’d be curious if Agatha improves after that point.

  3. Chris- I love lunch, friends and knitting.

I never seem to get much knitting done- with my big mouth and all.

Please feed that cat, for goodness sake. Can’t you see he’s starving! =^..^=

  4. Deb really does look like she’s having this great conversation with Chaos. That was pretty brave of Chaos – he must be getting accustomed to Deb? You’ll have to read my post from today to hear what happened to my weekend….

  5. I’d have to say, Kudos to Chaos, it looks to me like he’s being a gennulman. Lilliane tends to stand on the table looking me right in the eye; she thinks I don’t know she’s trying the Vulcan mind-meld. She also doesnt’ realize it won’t work.

You’re straight on – nice lunch with a good friend followed by knitting…that’s the Jewish Mother’s recipe for a Restorative Afternoon. So there. (Hope you’re feeling better and better!)

  6. Deb’s pretty cute there too, and what a buddy bringing in lunch and a mocha! Hmmm… those trashy supernatural books sound appealing. The kiddo used to blame the dog (the border collie from before) for various misdeeds (because we all know how disgustingly smart those dogs are), but I would tell kiddo, ‘she doesn’t have opposable thumbs ya know’.

  7. Oooh. Thanks for the book recommendation. I’ve been looking for something to get for Jeff for Christmas. I always try to get him one book he’s never heard of but that I know he’ll love because it makes me look like a superstar. I think Air will be a hit for sure.

Glad to hear you’re feeling better and up and around. I wish my cats love naill clipping half as much as yours.

  8. I’m shocked that Chaos is tolerating Deb’s presence – for mere salad, which I’m assuming he didn’t get any. (Salad. Honestly. Put those Dark Hunter novels down. 😉
